Chapter 2: Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles
We explore the influences and nanocrystal growth approach by polyol method. Control experiments with different capping agent, adding method, and temperature to get nanoparticles with different size, shape and distribution. Particularly, TEM image shows nanoparticles grow by coalescent in the concentrated silver ion solution. At last, we discussed the capping agent catalyzing the reduction reaction by UV and IR spectroscopy.Chapter 1: Introduction and General Background
This is general introductory chapter and highlights a brief account on the nanomaterials and its size dependent effects. Here, we review the basic fundamentally physical properties in the nanoscale and its prospect of applications between multidisciplinary.Chapter 3: Synthesis of Silver Nanoplates by Two-Dimensional Oriented Attachment
Synthesis of silver nanoplates was studied in the modified polyol method; where the nucleation and seed stage occurred in a polyethylene glycol (PEG)-water mixture solution, and the growth stage happened in the PEG environment. The morphological evolution of nanoplates was characterized using UV, SEM, and TEM. Interestingly, plane nanostructures with unusual jagged edges were finally formed in our modified polyol method. Using TEM, we observed the medium state of fusion between two nanoplates, resulting in generating unusual jagged edges. Therefore a novel two-dimensional oriented attachment occurred in our modified polyol method, which involves smaller nanoplates as the building blocks. Further control experiments showed that the presence of water could break this kinetic preferred reactivity, leading to the formation of nanoparticles.Chapter 4: Ag Nanopastes with Hydroxypropyl Cellulose Binder
This chapter reports the preparation and characterization of Ag nanopastes by using the novel hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) binder system. The pastes were composed of 100 nm Ag nanoparticles (NP) and HPC binder solution in 2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy) ethanol (EEOH). The rheological behaviours of the HPC binder solution and the Ag nanopastes were characterized with a series of dynamic frequency sweeps and thixotropy experiments. After screen printing and sintering, low resistivity Ag electrodes were obtained.
