The power supplies within the telecommunication systems consume significant power, space, and thermal management resources. Therefore, the many dc/dc topologies for the distributed power supply have been developed, which characterize the high efficiency and the high power density. Amone these topologies, a conventional zero-voltage switching phase-shift full-bridge(ZVS PSFB) converter has received considerable attentions for medium- or high-power applications, which is because it features high conversion efficiency, high power density, and low electromagnetic interference (EMI). However, conventional zero-voltage switching phase-shift full-bridge (ZVS PSFB) converter has a large circulating energy during the freewheeling interval caused by the small duty cycle, which could increase the primary-side conduction losses, the turn-off switching losses of lagging-leg switches, and the current ripple through the output inductor. To overcome these problems, this dissertation suggests four approaches which can achieve high efficiency and high power density.
Firstly, a double-ended active clamp full bridge dc/dc converter is proposed. Since the proposed converter support 0~100% duty cycle operation, it can set the operating duty cycle to be near 50% at the full load condition. Therefore, the conduction loss and output current ripple is very small.
Secondly, a new mode changeable full bridge dc/dc converter is proposed. The proposed converter is operated as an asymmetrical full bridge converter during normal operation period with the duty cycle is less than 50%. But, its operation mode is changed to the active clamp full bridge converter during hold up time with the duty cycle is greater than 50%. Therefore, it can produce the stable output voltage along wide input voltage range even though the steady state duty cycle is 50% at full load condition. Moreover, ZVS of all power switches can be ensured along a wide load ranges and output current ripple is very small. Especially, since the freewheeling interval does not exist (the conduction loss is lower than that of the conventional ZVS PSFB dc/dc converter), high efficiency of the proposed converter can be achieved.
Thirdly, a multi-phase shift full bridge dc/dc converter is proposed. The proposed converter has a leading full-bridge inverter and a lagging full-bridge inverter for receiving a DC input and producing respective AC output voltages. And the output voltage is regulated by the phase shift(φ1) between leading and lagging legs and the phase shift(φ2) between leading and lagging full-bridge inverters. Therefore, the current ripple through the output inductor can be significantly reduced. Moreover, the voltage ringing of synchronous rectifer can be reduced which results in high efficiency.
Fourthly, a phase shift full bridge dc/dc converter with fixed phase operation inverter is proposed. The proposed converter has a similar circuit configuration to the multi-phase shift full bridge dc/dc converter. However, only one phase shift(φa or φb) is needed to regulate the output voltage. (where, φa is the phase shift between M1, M3 switches and M2, M4 switches. And, φb is the phase shift between M5, M7 switches and M6, M8 switches.) Therefore, the current ripple through the output inductor can be significantly reduced. Moreover, the voltage ringing of synchronous rectifer can be reduced which results in high efficiency.
