This study investigates middle school football player's football-related injury rates by position with the aim of improving injury prevention measures and performance. The participants of this study are 289 middle school football players registered in the Gyounggi soccer association. The resuts of this study are as follows:
1. Leg injury rates were higher in midfielders and forwards positions. Feet injuries were higher in midfielders whereas foot injuries were reported more often among goalkeepers.
2. The rate abrasion was higher in forward , midfielders and defender positions. Bruises were higher in goalkeeper and midfielders and goalkeepers than in the case of midfielders and defenders positions. forwards and defenders suffered more often from dislocation than midfielders and goalkeepers.
3. Throughout all the injuries, most of them were emerged to be caused in the winter times, and found to have more frequency in injuring 20 minutes after each half starts. The most of injuries occured in the afternoon trains.
4. To focus on the reasons of injuring for each position, the fowards and the midfilders tend to over-act, the defenders are not warmed up enough, and the keepers are relatively reckless.
5. Most of injuries occurred in the artificial grass fields, regardless of the positions
This study shows that different positions cause different types of injuries and of preventing injuries need to be . Based on the finding, the following suggestions can be made: First, current injury prevention methods need to be changed. Second, soccer players need not only physical training but also mental training. Lastly, physical environment in the soccer field should be taken into account when it comes to training and practice.
