A Study on Individualized Education Plan Directions for Vocational High School in gwang-ju Lee, Kwuyong Yong. Adviser : Kim, Jong Goo, Ph.D. Major : General Social Science Education Graduate School of Education, Chosun university Vocational high schools, influenced by the plan of raising heavy industries based on the country-led plan for economic development, have settled for training skilled labor pool, training and supplying excellent skilled workers that comprise the very foundation of national industry. However, since 1990s, with economy development achieved at some extent, people have been reluctant to have technical jobs and students have tended to avoid going to vocational high schools. This phenomenon arose from changes in people's view on skilled laborers, an increase in GNP, the desire for higher education, and environmental changes in the social framework. Moreover, the government reflected parents' desire for higher education on their policies, and set restrictions on establishing universities, which made the tendency of avoiding going vocational schools more serious. One of the basic purposes of education is to find individual's aptitude and develop it for seeking national development and also each one's happiness. Because of the standardization policy of high schools, educational equality has been realized. Educational diversity and efficacy, however, have even less grown up than we expected. Specialized high schools may be an alternative to these diversity and efficacy. It is a new attempt that we let students develop their aptitude and talent through various and specialized education, maintaining the existing vocational high school's concreteness. Accordingly, this study will examine the present state of ongoing specialization of vocational high schools, and show the way of making specialized high schools prosper in terms of vocational education, based on the literature on this subject: the government's supporting vocational education policy, the regulations and policies of the Ministry of Education, the report about it by Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training, some theses, various kinds of statistics, and some books related to vocational education.
