Asiatic black bear(Ursus Tibetanus Ussuricus) is mammal which hibernates in winter as physiological mechanism. During hibernation, bear barely drinks water and excretes in winter and its metabolism decrease to reduces breathing and heart rate. This study was to investigate the hematologic change. Released 6 bears(♀4, ♂2, Jiri mountain national park) and 9 raised Asiatic black bears(♀3, ♂6, Center of restoration of species) were examined by hibernation, sex, lactation, style of capture from Jan. 2009 to Oct. 2011. TCO2, PCO2, HCO3, and pH in blood, blood pictures, and biochemical test were done. Values of TCO2, PCO2, and HCO3 were increased during hibernation and those of released bear were higher than those of raised bear. MCV and MCH were increased, and number of WBC and platelets was decreased during hibernation. The value of male were significantly decreased. Values of amylase, triglyceride and uric acid increased, and BUN and LDH decreased during hibernation. Value of amylase increased in female(63 ± 8.6 u/l) and decreased in male(17 ± 4.8 u/l). In released bear, values of total cholesterol, creatine, creatine phosphokiase-MB(CPK-MB) increased during hibernation, however, those of glucose, albumin, AST, ALT decreased. values of LDH, ALP, creakine phospokinase(CPK) dropped in pregnant bear. This study suggest that blood gas, pictures and biochemistry change by hibernation, which can be caused by metabolic rate due to feeding, environmental temperature and stress and so on, and this will be used as a basic reference data for hematology in Asiatic black bear in Korea.
