Since biomass burning produce air pollutants, and a major greenhouse gas, such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, biomass burning emissions significantly influence the Earth’s atmosphere and climate change. Recently Korea considers the source of biomass burning emissions reflecting national characteristic, so that includes the inventory of emission source but positive research is rarely implemented in Korea. Therefore, a study on characteristics of greenhouse gas emissions from biomass burning is necessary and it also makes the source management effectively when the climate-atmospheric management system takes effect. In this study, using the manufactured charcoal kiln for understanding characteristics of greenhouse gas in Korea and the number of experiment was three times to get a reliable experiment result. The sampling time was decided by changing degree in charcoal kiln and charcoal manufacturing process. The results of analysis greenhouse gas concentration from charcoal kiln were not consistent level so calculation emission factor of charcoal kiln has to consider the real-time data. The results of calculation greenhouse gas emission factor from charcoal kiln were 668 g CO2/kg, 20 g CH4/kg, 0.01 g N2O/kg. Comparing emission factor in this study with US EPA, emission factor of CO2, CH4 are 550 g/kg, 55 g/kg, CO2 emission factor is 18 % higher than US EPA, CH4 emission factor is 62 % lower than US EPA. Using the emission factor developed in this study, calculate the emissions from charcoal kiln in Korea. The results of calculation were 46,040 ton CO2/yr, 1,378 ton CH4/yr, 0.69 ton N2O/yr and greenhouse gas emissions applying GWP are as follows. CH4 emissions was 28,947 ton CO2 eq./yr, N2O emissions was 214 ton CO2 eq./yr. As a result, Gross emissions of charcoal kiln in Korea was 75,201 ton CO2 eq./yr, but according to the IPCC, greenhouse gas emissions amount from biomass is to be reported separately by excluding from the total emissions amount. The oak used in this study includes the biomass so emissions of CO2 are excluded. Therefore the net emissions of charcoal kiln in Korea was 29,161 ton CO2 eq./yr. This study was understanding characteristics of greenhouse gas from charcoal kiln in korea, it will be help understanding greenhouse gas emissions and planning the reduction emissions properly. To improve reliability and accuracy of calculation greenhouse gas emissions, this study should get a representative charcoal kiln in Korea and need more data of analysis, and also considering used woods in Korea charcoal kiln.
