Microparticles of uniform size have been used for various fields such as drug delivery system, personal care, medical imaging agents and tissue engineering. Recently, studies on the fabrication of new structural microparticles are attracting great interest. The new types of fabricated particles are core-shell particles, Janus particles, hollow particles, non-spherical particles. Fabrication of golf ball shaped microparticles has been reported by two principal methods. Two principal methods were seeded dispersion and stabilizing emulsions using small colloidal particles (i.e., Pickering emulsion). However, the previous studies cannot be applied to biodegradable polymers and cannot control the internal structures of microparticles. Herin, we demonstrated new fabrication of uniform golf-ball-shaped microparticles by using a fluidic device. Our new fabrication system can be applied to various polymers such as PLGA, PDLA, PLLA, PCL. The particle size can be also controlled by varying concentration of polymer solution and flow rate of continuous phase. This uniform golf-ball-shaped microparticles are promising for various application fields, especially in biological and biomedical applications.
