This study was performed to evaluate the effect of the four week MLD lower body management, L-carnitine ingestion and stretching program on lower body type management. For this study, eighteen female college students with a body fat percentage of 22~28% were selected in Seoul and Gyeonggi area; MLD was given for twenty minutes a day; stretching transpired for twenty minutes a day, and 1g for a day of L-carnitine was offered three times a week for the total study period of one month from June 28 to July 27, 2012. Before and after the experiment, upper and lower body characteristics, obesity and body awareness, lower body obesity management and body type care recognition, management satisfaction, etc. were investigated through a questionnaire. Body composition (PBF, BFM, SMM, FFM) was assessed by through physiological tests; base blood (WBC, RBC, Hb, Hct), blood lipids (LDL-C, HDL-C, TC, TG), and body form (Waist, Hip, Thigh, Calf) changes were evaluated through 3D Body Scanner.
As for body composition, body fat percentage and body fat showed a decrease in the Exercise B group; conversely, fat-free mass increased in Exercise B group after the experiment (p <05). The reason is considered that MLD promotes the excretion of waste products due to improved lymphatic flow and an increase in blood flow; and stretching reduced body fat by improving fat oxidation capacity.
As for base blood, WBC, Hb, Hct showed reduction in dietary C group (p <05) after the experiment, the decrease being within the allowable limit. It seems that the MLD effect on blood circulation, the effect of L-carnitine on muscle contraction, myocardial activity, and improved oxygen uptake affected the change in the counts and quantity of the WBC, Hb, and Hct. As for blood lipids, LDL-C, TC, TG showed decrease in contrast A group, exercise B group and dietary C group after the experiment; HDL-C increased slightly in exercise B group only. Considering the time of general reaction effect of blood lipids, the arithmetic change in blood index is thought to be positive result combined with MLD effect and stretching effect, or the efficacy of L-carnitine.
As for 3D body form change, circumference of the right thigh and calf showed a decrease in exercise B group; the reason seems that stretching requires the inner muscle force to support the body, thus reducing the subcutaneous fat of the calf. In addition, the right and left thigh circumference (p <.05) showed a decrease in diet C group, and a decrease in waist circumference (p <.01), too. The reason is considered that L-carnitine, the role of which is passing long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondrial matrix, promoted the conversion of thigh fat into energy to decrease the thigh circumference.
As for the recognition of post-lower body obesity management and body form management between recognition groups, the 'immediate effect of lower body obesity management in skin care salons' appeared relatively higher in exercise B group and diet C group compared to control A group. As for the management satisfaction and recognition change, it is shown that the diet C group has relatively high 'body form management satisfaction effect' and 'positive body form perception' (p <.05).
Therefore, this study demonstrated that specific body part management is necessary; that the synergy effect of lower body form management is expected for beauty care. If exercise, diet and a healthy lifestyle are provided at the same time; a more appropriate and healthy management program is developed for female lower body management.
