This study examines Korean mothers-in-law's stresses from foreign daughters-in-law to explore the conflict between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law in multicultural families located in the Jeonnam Province. Moreover it analyzes the correlation between their stresses and their life satisfaction according to social demographic characteristics of multicultural families. This study is ultimaterly aimed to propose ways to strengthen the life satisfaction of mothers-in-law and to reduce the stresses between mothers-in-law living in multicultural families situated differently from general families to build a great family relationship with foreign daughters-in-law. For this study, the data analysis used SPSS/Win 19.0 Program. This study generated Cronbach's α, frequency analysis, percentage, average, standard deviation. In addition, t_test, ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis were conducted. The main results of this study are sumarized oas follows: First, when it comes to the general trend of life satisfaction and stresses of Korean mothers-in-law from foreign daughters-in-law, the degree of life satisfaction from total stresses amounts to a bit less than average(3), 2.75(0.79) according to five point scale. The degree of life satisfaction according to subcategories of these stresses are the least when it comes to housework performance(2.61(0.77)), and the right to treat housework and family finance(2.82(0.84)), and intergenerational gap(3.06(0.73)). Therefore, the life satisfaction with regard to the intergenerational gap is the highest among the subcategories of stresses. Nevertheless, the degree of general life satisfaction is just 3.16(0.65), higher than the stresses between mother-in-law and daughter0in-law. Second, according to social demographic characteristics of multicultural families, mothers-in-law from non-educated groups and unhelthy groups are very vulnerable to total stresses. When ito comes to subcategories of stresses above according to social demographic characteristics of these families, the results of life satisfaction analysis are as follows: Firstly, in the case of the stresses between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law according to social demographic characteristics of multicultural families, stresses linked to the right to treat housework and family finance led to meaningful difference among groups depending on final educational background(F=3.54, P<0.01) and health condition(F=3.99, P<0.01). The difference among groups are meaningful when it comes to the unsatisfaction in housework performance. The discontent in contact frequency and affectional structure gives rise to meaningful difference among groups depending on the status of cohabitation(T=-2.32, P<0.05). The discontent in the intergenerational gap is meaningfully distinct among groups according to age ((F=4.20, P<0.01), final educational background(F=4.63, P<0.001), and health condition (F=2.48, P<0.05). Next the life satisfaction of mother-in-law in multicultural families is meaningfully different among groups depending on the status of cohabitation (T=2.46, P<0.01) and health condition)F=6.79, P<0.001). The most unhealthy groups are the least satisfied with their life in terms of the degree of total satisfaction. Third, social demographic characteristics, stresses between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, and life satisfaction are meaningfully correlated with one another. To begin with the correlation between the general nature of mother-in-law in multicultural families and the degree of their life satisfaction, positive correlation takes place between final educational background(r=0.12, P<0.01), cohabitant families(r=0.15, P<0.001), health condition(r=0.27, P<0.001), and family monthly income(r=0.24, P<0.001). By contrast, negative correlation happens with regard to the status of cohabitation with foreign daughter-in-law(r=-0.12 P<0.01). Next, when it comes to the correlation between the stresses of mother-in-law from daughter-in-law and life satisfaction, first, high positive correlation appears regarding the discontent of mother-in-law in the housework performance of daughter-in-law. Inter-group correlation appears to be the most meaningful with regard to the discontent in contact frequency and affectional structure(r=-0.484, P<0.01), followed by their stresses linked to the right to treat housework and family finance(r=-0.436, P<0.01) and intergenerational stresses(r=-0.344, P<0.01). Fourth, the most critical variable affecting the life satisfaction of mother-in-law in multicultural families is health condition(β=0.260), followed by family monthly income(β=0.162) and final educational background(β=1.007). the influential power of total variables is 12%. That is to say, the life satisfaction of mothers-in-law is on the rise with the improvement of their health condition, the growth of their family monthly income, and high final educational background. Fifth, the most important variable affecting the life satisfaction of mothers-in-law due to their stresses from daughters-in-law is their discontent in housework performance(β=-0.384), followed by health condition(β=0.169), family monthly income(β=0.137), contact frequency and affectional structure(β=-0.130), and final educational background)β=0.097). The influential power of total variables is 34%. In other words, the life satisfaction of mother-in-law linked to their stresses from daughter-in-law grows with the decline of their discotent in housework performance and in contact frequency and affectional structure, as well as with the improvement of their health condition, the growth of their family monthly income, and high final educational background. In conclusion, the life satisfaction of mother-in-law grows from 12% to 34% by inputting the parameter, the stresses between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Accordingly, the international marriage with foreign daughter-in-law results in serious stresses between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. The result of this study cannot be generalized of course because it is just confined to multicultural families living in the Jeonnam Province. Therefore, further research is subsequently needed to improve the limitation of this study.
