The purpose of this study is to develop effective teaching-learning plan to advance sensitivity and creativity through pop art appreciation class for middle school students. As the contemporary society makes drastic changes and diversifies, the contemporary art has become more complicated and diversified. Following such a change in art, the paradigm of art education also has shifted as well. Under the traditional art education, the appreciation education has important goal in ‘enhancement of sentiment’, ‘advancement of aesthetic capability’ and so forth. However, the 21st century art has changed with various implications and values. With the amended art education program of 2009, the goal of art appreciation education is to understand the relationship of student and its surrounding environment, participate in visual culture, understand the implication of art under the cultural context as well as advance the competency to determine the value of art works. Therefore, this researcher has studies the class plan in appreciation area with the scheme to enable students to advance their aesthetic sensitivity through easily accessible pop art and advance their competency to creatively express and communicate their feeling and thoughts in creative ways. For the contents and method of the study to accomplish the study purpose; first, analysis is made on the status of the middle school art education program and then present the improvement plan on the direction of the art education. Second, in consideration of the development phase of students, appropriate instruction plan for the characteristics has been sought. Third, contemplation has been made through advance studies and related documentations, including, background in time for pop art, its concept and characteristics, expression technique and so forth. Fourth, the teaching and learning program in the appreciation is to be prepared through understanding on pop art. This study has sought creative instruction plan in art class for students to develop interest on art and actively participate in art class as well as understand themselves and discover the harmony in the relationship with the surrounding environment. In addition, it enables students to understand social value of visual culture and seek for participation plan. On the basis of the above study, the pop art appreciation education is to be facilitated in a way of providing students to enjoy art within their lives and advance the aesthetic sensitivity with the creativity by developing various appreciation education methods.
