또한 초기에 발표된 연극치료관련 학술지논문과 연구동향을 살펴보면 “연극요법(Dramatherapy)연구”(중앙대학교 연구논집, 한명희 1991)학술지논문과, “CATHARSIS: Ritual & Theater”(홍유진, 1992, 뉴욕대: 박사학위논문), “An Exploration of ‘Roles’ in Naerim Kut, the Korea Shaman Initiation Rite”(김진숙, 1994, 뉴욕대: 박사학위논문), “한국무속의례의 연극치료(Dramatherapy)”(한명희, 1994, 중앙대: 석사학위논문)가 있다.

In the recent years, the field of art therapy in South Korea has been recognized as the realm of Integrative Medicine; however, the historical research on drama therapy has not been studied in depth unlike music, art, dance and expressive arts therapy. Thus, research on history of drama therapy is essential to develop the balance between interdisciplinary studies and foster students in drama therapy major. The purposes of this study were as follows. First, the researcher reviewed settlement and development of the drama therapy for twenty years from its introduction in the early 1990's to its practical application stage up to the present with the historical approach. Second, it promoted to find method to apply the Korea drama therapy to contemporary men who seek to find the holistic healing in the fast growing society. Finally, it suggested the prospect and vision of the Korea drama therapy by analysing application condition of it. The research method was designed to analyse the introduction and settlement, and social, clinical, and educational, research trends of the Korea drama therapy; therefore it collected the data from six newspaper publishing companies such as Kyunghyang Newspaper, Dong-A Ilbo, Maeil Business Newspaper, Chosun Ilbo, JoongAng Ilbo, Hankyoreh and four broadcasters such as KBS1 · 2TV, EBS, MBC, SBS. In addition, the status of the establishment of institutions and organizations were divided into the two categories; (1) the institutions and organizations with the title of drama therapy and (2) the institutions and organizations dealing with drama therapy. Clinical activity during the research period was defined by the standard of support agencies such as government agencies, public institutions, private institutions, hospitals based on the clinical trends. Next, To analyse the educational institutions of professional drama therapy, it researched secondary education institutions and analysed the after school drama therapy activities and arrangement status of school counselors and Wee class from elementary schools to high schools on a national scale, and it also researched higher education institutions and analysed the status of undergraduate and graduate programs by its title, features and the number of professors. Finally, it analysed the current publications such as thesis and articles in journals related to drama therapy. Especially, the theses were categorized and compared by their publication year, features, research target and method. Thus, based on public records and analysed data, the Korea drama therapy was introduced by Dr. Youjin Hong in 1990 when the society had a desperate need of psychological well-being. From 1992 to 2000, she played a major role on introducing drama therapy and it effect by demonstrating it through the various media including TV. Broadcast media has been covering approximately forty three programs of drama therapists or therapeutic programs. Among them, from 1992 to 2004, the mainstream of the programs was dealing with Dr. Hong's drama therapy works. On the other hand, from 2005 Miri Park, Yeonok Song's drama therapy works also were introduced by media. This proved that Korea drama therapy has developed by the various therapists. In addition, Korea drama therapy programs in the early 1990s were mainly focused on demonstrating drama therapy to introduce its function and effect or on therapist-centered programs; however, the recent media trends has changes to a target-oriented counselling solutions aired in SBS and EBS "My child has changed", "We are different now series". In particular, research institutions began to open in 1992 and in this regard, the institutions and agencies related to drama therapy had emerged to meet the public's need to become mentally well-being. Since the introduction of drama therapy in Korea, it has been a tremendous impact on the society that the drama therapy could effect and apply to all kind of field and this overall progress seems very encouraging. As mentioned, the first generation of drama therapists were focused on the social aspect, 'national mental health recovery' and now it shows that a new perspective paradigm of drama therapy as 'integrative medicine' could open in the future. In academia, it became very active to train professional drama therapists. In 2001, Wonkwang University started to foster drama therapists in the department of performing arts therapy, Graduate School of Health & Complementary Medicine. In 2006, Dongduk Women's University opened the drama therapy major in the department of drama psychology, Graduate School of Performing Arts and it was the first independent academic department which offered drama therapy major. The early published articles in journals and the research trend related to drama therapy were as stated below; "Research on Dramatherapy"(Chung Ang University Research Journal, Myunghee Han 1991), “CATHARSIS: Ritual & Theater”(Yujin Hong, 1992, Newyork University: Doctoral dissertation), “An Exploration of ‘Roles’ in Naerim Kut, the Korea Shaman Initiation Rite”(Jinsuk Kim, 1994, Newyork University: Doctoral dissertation), “Dramatherapy of Korean Shamanistic Ceremony” (Myunghee Han, 1994, Chung Ang Univeristy; Master's thesis). Also there are fifteen books related drama therapy published; five of them were written by Doctor Yujin Hong and her first publication was 『A Catharsis: Gut(shamanistic ritual), Play and Drama therapy』(Yujin Hong, 1993, Seoul, Deulbul), and ten of them were translated books of drama therapy theories which covers the definition and method of EPR model, Role model DvT model created by Sue Jennings from the UK, Robert Landy and David Read Johnson from the USA respectively. Since the 1970s, drama therapy field has continued to prosper through the overseas educational institutions such as New York University in the United States of America and University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom, University of London-Central School of Speech & Drama etc.; apart from this, drama therapy in Korea was introduced in 1990s and in the late 1990s, students studying abroad regarded as the first generation in the drama therapy field returned to Korea and brought a new phase in drama therapy development. They are professor Yujin Hong who studied in the USA and open a drama therapy major in Dongduk Women's University, and professor Jinsook Kim who studied in the USA as well and open an arts psycho therapy major in Myongji University. and Myunghee Han, a drama therapist, who studied in the UK and has been actively working in the field in Korea. In addition, there are Miri Park who studied in Korea and opened a drama therapy major in Yongin University, and Hyowon Lee, a translator who has translated numerous books related to drama therapy. They all are leading figures who has considerably contributed to the development of drama therapy in Korea. As stated above, the first generation of therapists in the field of drama therapy has been fully devoted to their works, and now expectation to nurture and flourish the field is high for the second generation. Thus, not only drama therapy but also other arts therapy should strive to develop under the category of integrative arts therapy with complementary perspectives. In that sense, inauguration of Korean professor council for arts therapy is considered to be a meaningful progress of the development of arts therapy. Korea drama therapy has radically developed to adapt to rapidly changing economic growth and spiritual civilization. It is suggested that the study on drama therapy should carry out academic vision and task through integration and convergence and contribute to the development of spiritual civilization of all mankind.
In the recent years, the field of art therapy in South Korea has been recognized as the realm of Integrative Medicine; however, the historical research on drama therapy has not been studied in depth unlike music, art, dance and expressive arts therapy.
