It's difficult to remove biological phosphorous for biological phosphorus treatment below 1mg/L or less is difficult. Domestic sewage treatment effluent water quality standard was strengthened to 0.2mg/L from 1 January, 2013. Thus, more complex process with combination of chemical precipitation, adsorption, ion exchange, and more other processes is required for phosphorus treatment. Chemical precipitation method has high efficiency and stability. But the consumption of chemicals used and the additional sludge problems limits its usage. Adsorption process, in comparison to other biological or chemical precipitation method process, is more expensive and the adsorbents for phosphorus removal has been developed a few. Thus, development of adsorbent for the purpose of phosphorus removal and its regeneration of used adsorbent is being studied. Used adsorbent regeneration is tested through chemical regeneration, ultrasonic regeneration, and electrical regeneration. Chemical regeneration method used 0.25M~2M HCl and NaOH solutions and measured the amount of phosphorous desorbed from used adsorbent. 2.05mgP/g used adsorbent used adsorbent was desorbed in 0.25M HCl while for 0.25M NaOH up to 3.76mgP/g used adsorbent was desorbed. Ultrasonic regeneration method uses 28 KHz frequency with power output of 50W, 100W, and 200W for 0.25M~2M HCl or NaOH solution. The highest concentration of phosphorous desorbed was 4.28mgP/g used adsorbent for 0.25M NaOH and 4.64mgP/g used adsorbent for 2M HCl; both for 100W power. Electrical regeneration uses the principle of fixing the adsorbent in electrode and passing the current therough it. Experimental parameters include voltage, current, type of electrolyte, the electrolyte concentration, the type of electrode, and the electrode spacing. For obtaining the optimum condition i.e. maximum desorption, the variable parameters were varied keeping one constant. In varying voltage in the range of 5V~20V, 2.98mgP/g used adsorbent was desorbed at 20V which is 95% regeneration. In varying current in the range of 0.25A~1A, 2.98mgP/g used adsorbent was desorbed at 0.5A which is 95% regeneration. The electrolyte was varied as 0.25M NaOH, 0.25M HCl, 0.25M NaCl, and 0.25M H2SO4. At 0.25M HCl 3.1mgP/g used adsorbent of 98% was regenerated. For NaCl electrolyte, in varying its concentration from 0.05M~2M, 1M NaCl yielded 2.8mgP/g used adsorbent which was 90% regeneration. For HCl electrolyte, in varying its concentration from 0.05M~2M, 2M HCl yielded 3.67mgP/g used adsorbent. From the results of used adsorbent regeneration, both regeneration and re surface modification are remodification indispensable for reusing the adsorbent.
