Pollution in the environment is rapidly increasing due to urbanization and industrialization. Increase in water demand causes a need for an efficient water supply. Membrane process has high potential for wastewater reuse. So several processes are being used for wastewater reuse such as filtration or disinfection, microfiltration (MF) and reverse osmosis (RO). The purpose of this study is to treat the membrane bioreactor (MBR), MBR+ powdered activated carbon (PAC), submerged microfiltration (SMF), SMF+PAC, pressurized micro filtration (PMF) permeate, which is mainly used in wastewater treatment, by Low Pressure Reverse Osmosis (LPRO) process. Various factors are being considered to determine the optimum operating condition such as pretreatment, pressure, recovery rate and type of membrane, which can help to satisfy the effluent standard for wastewater reuse process. MBR+PAC system was used as the main pretreatment for LPRO, and was compared to other pretreatments. At constant pressure of 0.4 MPa same pressure, MBR+PAC-LPRO system has higher flux (1.5 times) and better water quality as compared to a system of LPRO. In order to get stable water quality, the pressure was determined at 0.4 MPa. Based on the waste water reuse standards, permeate was available for human-friendly water. Rejection rate was decreased with increased recovery rate. At 90 % recovery rate, water quality was satisfied for human-friendly water standards. In order to get high recovery rate, concentrate staging was used in this study. Two stages were operated with total recovery rate of 99 %. This can be available for human-friendly water. A continuous experiment was done for a week, and result show that the flux was rapidly decreased at the first 30 hours, with reduced flux reaching 8.52 LMH. Employing chemical cleaning, flux was recovered to 35.79 LMH as compared to the initial flux of 38.91 LMH. At the end of the operation, flux was rapidly decreased to 8.29 LMH. SEM result showed that the membrane surface of MBR+PAC system was scarely fouled as compared to MBR system but the support layer was less fouled than MBR. Therefore, it would be advantageous to operation the RO membrane with the permeate from the MBR-PAC system. FT-IR result showed that the wave length permeability of MBR+PAC and RO were decreased, which can be attributed to membrane fouling. MBR-PAC system is an effective membrane, pretreatment for LPRO with 90 ~ 99 % recovery rate and 99 % salt rejection operation at 0.4 MPa.
