A psychoanalytical study on Kim so jin’s novels Choi Hyun Suk Department of Creative Arts and Media Graduate School of Culture Creation Kyunghee Cyber University The main purpose of this study is psychoanalytic analysis through the historical background, people and repeatable subject matters. In 1970‧1980, it was more about the grand narratives by the periodical trends. However, in 1990, it turned into the postmodernism which reveals the inner life of individuals through every small matters. In this trend, his noves in 90’s develop microscopic realism in narratives of 70‧80s, by bringing the individuals small matters into the stories. His work, as autobiographical fiction novels, can be divided into the family history and the story of commoners. The family history is about the ideology of the war and characters trauma and the stories of commoners showing the social ideology and the desire. Through this analysis, I assay to view different aspects of the novels. Firstly, the story of a family, with characters ‘father’, ‘mother’ and ‘I’, is about ‘I’ who is growing with the resentment and anger toward ‘father’ who is incompetent financially and mentally and thereby ‘mother’ had to be strong. This family story reflects the period ideology and traumatic neurosis ; ‘father’s war trauma by the Korean war, ‘mother’s OCD(obsessive-compulsive disorder) to be stronger by the incompetent ‘father’ and ‘I’s trauma about ‘father’ by not overcoming the Oedipus complex. The trauma is revealed repeatably by the symbolic objects such as thigh, bread and animals. However, the new circumstance ‘father’s death, ‘I’ understand ‘father’ by standing on the position of his father and ‘mother’ accept all the fate, shows the willingness to cope with and heal from traumatic neurosis. Secondly, the stories of the commoners reveal the woes of marginalized lives in Miari and the conflict from the conformed to reality intellectuals who used to stand on the forefront for democracy in 1980’s. In this work, Kim So-jin desires the social ideology and desires of others can not be done. However, the conflicts is not only shown by the expression of negative but also showing the willingness to be overcome through dreams and fantasies. Thus, the novels of Kim So-jin show the 1970‧1980’s grand narrative that reveals through the daily life of individuals and there is clear psychological analysis about the era, character and symbolic objects. Through this analysis, you are able to find out what they will to overcome the trauma of war and the desire can not be achieved in the social ideology. Kim so-jin’s novels, emcompassing both the grand narrative and postmodernism, are regarded as 1990’s significant novels. Key words : Traumatic neurosis, War trauma increases, the Oedipus complex, Emotional trauma, Ideology, Desire
