For decades, numerous novel materials have been synthesized and discovered. Among these materials, graphene, one atomic layer of carbon atoms, has attracted a great deal of attention due to its unique band structure and possible future applications. Graphene has linear dispersion relation which enables one to study the relativistic quantum mechanics in solid-state physics with table-top equipment. Also, graphene is considered as a material for next-generation electronics and quantum computing due to its outstanding mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. Thus, investigation of electronic and thermal properties of graphene is important not only for the understanding the electronic structure of Dirac materials, but also for the integration into current semiconductor devices. This thesis describe four experiments that elucidate some interesting electrical and thermo-electrical properties of graphene and its bilayer. Each part contains an introduction, experimental results, and a summary. In the first part, we discuss the thermoelectric transport properties of bilayer graphene. We measure the temperature and gate-voltage dependence of the thermoelectric power in bilayer graphene. Features are properly interpreted based on the semiclassical Motts relation, which leads to the correct dispersion relation, electron-phonon interactions, and the effective dimensionality of bilayer graphene. In distinction from monolayer graphene, we find a deviation from the Mott's relation as well as the saturation of TEP at high temperatures. We confirm that the deviation is due to the low Fermi temperature of the bilayer, which enables one to study TEP in high-temperature limit in this system. In the second part, we discuss the heat transport measurements in monolayer graphene in the integer quantum Hall regime. We inject hot carriers at one location at the edge of the graphene sheet, and its transport is observed by measuring the thermoelectric signal using a detector placed at a distance from the injector. Our measurements show that quantum Hall edge current is concentrated at the edge and is chiral dependent on the carrier type and the magnetic field direction. Also, we show that the thermoelectric signal and the electrical conductance is well correlated as predicted by the Mott relation. Finally, we estimate the partial heat loss during edge state propagation by using the spatial confinement and directivity of heat. We observe the decay of the thermoelectric signal with distance, possibly due to the coupling between charge carriers in the edge channels and various carrier-thermalization factors, such as phonons or localized states in bulk graphene. In the third part, we discuss the heat transfer rate between electrons and acoustic phonons in bilayer graphene. At low temperatures, the electron gas in bilayer graphene becomes easily decoupled from phonons or the lattice vibration. In high bias, the electron temperature becomes considerably higher than that of phonons. In this work, we investigate the electron-phonon heat transfer rate in bilayer graphene by measuring the electron temperature as a function of the applied Joule heating power. For thermometry of the electron temperature, we used the amplitude of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in high magnetic fields and the temperature dependent conductivity of bilayer graphene in zero magnetic field. In highly doped regime, the carrier heat-loss rate shows a T^4 dependence as expected for the deformation-potential coupling in two-dimensional system. Near the charge neutrality point, however, electron-phonon heat transfer rate shows a different dependence on the electron temperature, which may be related to the Bloch-Gru ̈neisen behavior in bilayer graphene. In the final part, we discuss a new method of fabricating graphene pnp junctions. By embedding pre-patterned local gates in a substrate, we are able to obtain high-quality pnp junctions with neither dielectric-layer deposition nor electron-beam exposure of the graphene sheet. We achieved ballistic and phase-coherent carrier transport in a graphene pnp device with a 130-nm-wide local gate, which is almost an order magnitude wider than reported previously. Quantitative analysis using the Landauer formula explains the observed conductance oscillation well and shows that the mobility is not degraded in the local-gate region (LGR). In a high magnetic field, another device with a 1 μm-wide local gate exhibited the 2e^2/h quantum-Hall (QH) plateau, indicating no backscattering in the LGR. The conductance across our pnp junctions shows a gate-voltage dependence that is very distinctive from that of top-gated junctions, indicating a strong screening of the electric field by the embedded local gate.
