A Study on Derivation of Modified Ionic Activity Coefficient Equation in High Concentration Electrolyte Solution원문보기

In this study, the author proposed a semi-empirical equation to calculate ionic activity coefficient and osmotic coefficient in strong electrolyte. Representative and typical method for activity coefficient calculation is Debye-Hückel equation. The Debye-Hückel equation is widely used to estimate the activity coefficient in a dilute ion solution, but the conjecture line strayed out of experimental data when the molality rises. In practice, the activity coefficient increases in concentrations with a molality greater than 1. The various equations and methods have been proposed and implemented to correct this increase. However, the most of corrections are polynomials with intricate form and need more than two adjustable parameters. Introducing a spherical cluster which gives isotropic potential into central position, the author derived a semi-empirical equation with two adjustable parameters. In 89 ionic compounds, the author gave the best fits for two adjustable parameters. The two parameter showed a high relation in a power function form, the adjustable parameters can be combined into an equation. Therefore, the proposed equation can be expressed with an parameter, α. The adjustable parameter, α is divided into two parameters represented with each ion. The activity coefficient can be transformed to osmotic coefficient in the rule of basic thermodynamic relation. Finally, the author ascertained that the proposed equation was in good agreement with the observed data for calculating activity coefficients. The advantages of this equation are to be derived theoretically and to be a simple monomial with one adjustable parameter for calculation of ionic activity coefficients.
