Conservation of damaged materials can lose aesthetic and historic values. These issues needs to be improved in physical bibliography view. In this study, the lining methods in restoration of cord binding books was investigated.
After lining the increase of the thickness and size variations of the appearance, density increases due to starch and adhesive between repair paper and the original paper were investigated.
Compared with leaf-casting processing method and an improved restoration plan is to present the research purposes. The subjects was Jea Sea Bo Gam. The lining treatment and leaf-casting process was conducted with Jea Sea Bo Gam. The physical and chemical state of the experiment were compared. Analysis of the experimental results and the lining of the leaf-casting Jea Sea Bo Gam carried our by considering morphological characteristics.
For first improvement, leaf casting raw material, cotton or hemp fiber, wood pulp and similar taxes, whether Jea Sea Bo Gam fiber blend was prepared. Second, Jea Sea Bo Gam Pansim was fixed by making square frame. Third, square frame on the accuracy of the raw material savings and improved inputs. Fourth, when leaf-casting on the screen wire mesh smoothness of the felt overlap to improve the adhesive was placed.
After experiment the changes between lining and leaf-casting in thickness was from 28.26% to 0%, in weight was from 9.08% to 1.41%, in density was from -14.93% to 1.49%.
The result of pH test showed that both lining and leaf-casting were effective to remove substances and neutralization. But in pH test leaf-casting showed pH 6.90, lining showed pH 6.16 that leaf-casting was more effective.
Using mixed Hanji, Bleached Kraft Pulp and Unbleached Kraft Pulp for fiber similarity with the original improved surface differences and bonding property.
If missing area, holes, cuttings are repeated the leaf-casting showed improvement in increased thickness of prevention, cleaning and deoxidizing treatment effects, weight, and weighed accuracy, standardization work characteristics were in good shape in terms of bibliography.
The conservation of Cord Binding Books should consider damage of original material, kind of paper fiber, weakness of material during wet treatment, conservation starch and value of material. Therefore traditional lining methods and leaf-casting should be complemented each other and scientific research should be continued.
