This study set out to analyze and investigate the characteristics of flamenco, Spanish folk dance music, in 7 Classical Spanish Songs by F.J.Obradors (1897-1945), a Spanish composer. Spain is a federation of many different regions due to the geographical influences with each of those regions having its unique folk music and dance inherited from generation to generation. A unique genre called flamenco was born in Andalusia in the southern parts of Spain by the gypsies. In its early days, flamenco involved singing songs and dancing dances to the hand beats and foot thumping without accompaniment. As the guitar, the national instrument of Spain, started to accompany it, flamenco evolved into an artistic genre for people rather than mere music reflecting the joys and sorrows of common people in daily life. In addition, many Spanish composers introduced the features and guitar techniques of flamenco in their works. A Spanish composer, Obradors wrote many pieces to which people would have easy access by collecting and arranging the folk melodies of each region. Of his collection, 7 Classical Spanish Songs was performed a lot at concerts even when he was not a famous composer and gave him popularity. Its pieces convey the passionate, lyrical and splendid Spanish taste through the musical features and guitar techniques of flamenco, describe the movements to be associated with flamenco, apply such guitar techniques as rasgueado, golpe, and punteado to the piano accompaniment, thus presenting the most Spanish expressions.
