This paper focuses on the research and analysis of Piano Sonata Op.27 No.1 which is considered to be the early works among 32 Piano Sonatas composed by L. v. Beethoven. L. v. Beethoven, a pioneering composer who completed classical music and played a major role in music from the Romantic period, created Beethoven music amalgamating his own personality and creativity on the basis of the tradition of classicism. He composed Piano Sonatas throughout his entire life. By examining his works, we can notice the transition and the process of the development of them. As one of the Beethoven's early works, completed in 1801, Piano Sonata Op.27 No.1 represents the establishment of his new musical form and matureness in both internal and external aspects. This Piano Sonata has a subtitle which is called, "Sonata quasi una Fantasia". As seen from the subtitle, we can find characteristics of impromptu and fantastic freedom and also can identify that it attempts to elicit new musical form, breaking from the traditional format of Sonatas. It has four movements and does not finish by the perfect cadence - also without double bar which finish each movements - but, does use "attaca subito" which makes it a continuous Sonata. Considering the fact that Sonata allegro form is not used in the first movement and emphasis on the last movement in the form of Rondo can be found, we can discover a huge gap from such traditional Sonatas. Through this research and analysis of L. v. Beethoven Piano Sonata Op.27 No.1, we can understand that Beethoven tried to express his personality and originality in the classical form.
