Nanotechnology describes "nano-scale technologies", in which all science application conducted under the scale of a billionth of a meter can be referred as nanotechnology, containing an incredible broad range of researches and applications. The applications solve millions of problems, especially energy issues. This paper answers the research question: “Taiwan’s energy problems can be solved by nanotechnology and its development.” With the findings, the purpose of this paper is to support “Nanotechnology will be, and are the keys to Taiwan modern challenges, i.e., the compromises Taiwanese made to gain energy while negatively damaging the earth.” In the approaches of presenting significant scientific contributions, publications, and direct interviews from many, especially from Taiwanese research groups that are conducting sustainable ways to utilize, conserve and transfer energy, three major areas of discoveries are found in relation to solving problems mankind is facing in modern society: pollutions caused by harmful energy generations, shortage of electricity, and problems in storing and transferring energy. The paper uses Taiwanese case study proving nanotechnology developments that addresses solutions for energy problems lie in nano-fied materials for a greener and a more environmental-friendly system to generate and store energy as follows: nano-applications prove to terminate the pollutants (in air, water pollutions) being produced everyday in modern worlds, new approaches that conserve and use electricity in a smarter way, at the same time store and transport electricity for people who normally have difficulties accessing energies. i This essay does not cover in depth of the nanotechnology scientific findings in specific terminologies, or of how chemical interactions between elements conduct, but in a developmental angle, it collects the most relevant and recent advances in nanotechnology to sustainable energy using, conserving and storing. For this paper, photocatalysis, semi-conductors, high-efficiency lighting tools and nano-tech batteries are illustrated as the most significant solutions nano-science provided in the Taiwanese energy sector.
