Today, the integration of politics and economy has been accelerated in worldwide and frequency of exchanges between countries was increased in the process of the new era such as cultural globalization. Thus more international cooperations between countries increased in numbers. Such changes started to weaken the influence of ‘hard power’ which is the military force in one hand, but on the other hand, the dominance of ‘the soft power’ such as the culture has been expanding rapidly. Therefore, cultural exchanges play the important roles to strengthen mutual trust and understandings between countries as the most effective way to resolve conflicts and to control the other side. Thus cultural exchange has become the crucial element for the development of international society and used widely as a foreign policy of the diplomacy. Such change in diplomacy also took place in exchanges between Korea and China. Geographically, Korea locates close to China and culturally, it had been experienced a same ideological tradition of Confucianism in the Sinosphere. Therefore, the cultural exchanges between two countries have been started from ancient times in the history. They had been shared a very similar culture from early time. Thus it can be said that Korea and China share a wide variety of similarities in tradition, ethics, and moral values, and so on. Such similarities in cultural tradition of Korea and China can contribute to build closer friendship and to break the denial of differences in some parts their culture in the future. Although diplomatic relations of Korean and China were broken temporarily once by the influence of domestic and foreign political, economic and societal issues, later the two countries’ diplomacy was solved by the effect of international circumstances and promoted cultural exchanges actively. What kind of influences does the cultural exchange between Korea and China have on them? Also what is potential problem in it? Based on these problematics the paper focuses on the cultural exchange of Korea and China in the aspects of politics, economy and society. Moreover, this paper attempts to find the solutions to the problems in cultural exchange and to explore the mechanisms to improve cultural exchange and cooperation of Korea and China. In addition, the paper aims to develop the continues friendship cooperation and cultural exchange of Korea and China by exploring the influences of the development of their cultural exchange on the political, economic, and societal aspect. The thesis includes the total of six chapters. In Chapter I, the paper explains the problamatics and the main contents of research as an introduction part. Moreover, it presents the research scope and methodology in details. Chapter Ⅱ explores the analysis of domestic and foreign researches related to cultural exchanges of Korea and China and presents the research construction by describing 'Korean Wave' and 'Han Pong' culture through the main concepts of cultural exchange. First, the study on academic exchanges will be divided in governmental and nongovernmental areas. Here the mechanisms that promotes cultural exchange describes three types of areas such as politics, economy and society. Chapter Ⅳ examines in what ways the cultural exchange has influences on the politics, economy and society of Korea and China based on the analysis of Chapter Ⅲ. For the influence on politics, the research examines sport exchanges for the normalization of relationship between the Korea and China, young generation exchanges, people exchanges for the development of friendly relations and also studies the development of Confucius College in China and cultural center in Korea of public diplomatic relations. The influence of cultural exchange on economy and society is explored from the period of 'Korean Wave' and 'Han Pong'. Chapter Ⅴexamines the problems related to cultural exchange between Korea and China and their solutions based on the content of Chapter Ⅲ and Chapter Ⅳ from the aspects of politics, economy and society. Finally, chapter VI concludes the research on cultural exchange and its influences on Korean and China by presenting what the problems of cultural exchange were, what should be done for the further expansion of cultural exchange and continues development of mutual cooperative relations of the two countries and furthermore, for the peace and security of Northeast Asia. In addition, the conclusion presents the limitations of the research and further challenges. This research analyzed the current development of cultural exchange and its impact on politics, economy and society of Korea and China based on academic exchanges and cultural industry exchanges. With the continues development of cultural exchange, Korea and China have both witnessed great achievements in political, economic and social areas. However there are still various problems which are political and social issues about Korean and Chinese historical debate, cultural issues about ancestors or 'Korean Wave' anti –China, and economic issues about “cultural deficit” in cultural trade. Such problems can be obstacles for the development of cultural exchange and also even for the present development of friendly cooperation between Korea and China in the future. Therefore, the two countries need to expand their cultural exchange and should rebuild bilateral ‘trust’ for each other for their continues development of cooperation and for peace and security in Northeast Asia. Diversified exchanges and cooperation activities with deep and well organized structures should be conducted in the areas of politics, economy, society and culture by both governmental and non-governmental organizations. In addition, both Korea and China need to come up with active participation in avoiding the politicization of any potential problems of academic and historical areas.
