21.0과 AMOS ver.

To infer the true state of a regional product’s attributes, consumers use the image they have of the product’s region of origin. In reality, the products may have multiple countries of origin in their design, branding, sourcing and manufacturing since increasingly more products are emerging as a result of multi-firm and multi-country efforts. Research on evaluations and purchasing of foreign products infer that different kinds of country-of-origin (COO) affects consumers' perceptions of a product’s attributes and product judgements. Hence it is necessary to examine the country-of-origin effect more accurately with a new approach to multi-dimensional constructs of the country-of-origin. First, this paper’s aim is to examine how the country-of-origin image (country image, product image) affects international consumers’ perceived value (function value, symbolic value) and purchase intentions of made-in China by extending and deepening the flexible model. Second, in order to investigate the differences of COO effects according to different types of country-of-origin we divided the traditional country-of-origin into two components: country-of-manufacture (COM) and country-of-brand (COB), then we explore how the impact of China’s country image on consumers’ perceived value and purchase intentions varies when China is the COM or COB of the same product. Six main hypotheses were proposed to test our anticipations. We tested the hypothesis with the method combination of experiment and quantitative questionnaire survey. A booklet about a fictional product(LED TV)’s profiles (product descriptions) was made and it was showed to the research subjects. Next, the product value (function, symbolic) perception and purchase intentions of the product was measured in a five-point scale). Then the respondents were told to rate the country-of-origin image of China, using five-point scale, and to finish a list of questions about their demographic characteristics at last. The questionnaire was divided into COM questionnaire and COB questionnaire by the country of origin(COM, COB) combination (China, Country Z; Country Z, China) of research product. Eight hundred Korean adult consumers(COM questionnaire n=400; COB questionnaire n=400), who purchased made-in China products before, were recruited to participate in the online investigation by the research company Now&Future. Data analyses were conducted by descriptive analysis(frequency, percent, mean, standard division), Cronbach’s α reliability test, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) with SPSS ver. 21.0 and AMOS ver. 21.0. The main results are discussed as follows. First, the Korean consumers’ perception of China’s COO image is low generally, and China’s country image is higher than the product image. The international relationship image is the highest and the politic image is the lowest among the China’s country image factors. Second, when China is the COM of a product, empirical verification through structural equation modeling indicates that China’s country image represents the predominant positive influence on perceived value directly, and affects the purchase intentions indirectly through perceived value. However product image of China has no influence on the perceived value and purchase intentions. Third, when China is the COB of a product, the analysis results show that China’s product image represents the positive influence on perceived value directly, and affects the purchase intentions indirectly through perceived value. Country image affects the perceived value indirectly through the product image, and affects the purchase intentions indirectly through product image and perceived value. Therefore the current research demonstrates that the effects of China’s COO image on Korean consumers’ perceived value and purchase intentions vary when China is the COM or COB of a product. Finally, there is a positive effect of the function value and symbolic value on the purchase intentions was found. Furthermore literature and practical implications of findings will be discussed and suggested as follows. This research contributes to a more precise understanding of COO effect by dividing the COO into COM and COB, and the components of COO image affects perceived value and purchase intentions differently when China is COM or COB. It is necessary to consider the China’s low level COO image when foreign companies manufacture their products in China. And it will be helpful to overcome the negative China’s country image effect by understanding the different kinds of product’s image level, or moving the manufacturing base to a country or area with a positive image is worth considering as well. We also discussed the limitation and future research directions about the method of this experiment, research subjects and target product at last.
