Abstract A Study on the Effect of Meteorological Variables upon Hot Water Flow Rates of Consumers in Apartment Housings with District Heating Systems Woo, Teal Ho (Supervisor Chung, kwang Seop) Dept. of Energy Mechanical Facility Engineering Graduate School of Energy and Enviroment Seoul National University of Science and Technology Currently, construction of large-scale apartment complexes is constantly increased to raise housing supply rate and effectively use housing sites in our country where the land is limited. Thus, hot water usage of residential buildings is continuously increased in accordance with the demand for quality of the user’s indoor thermal environment level and quantitative extension of the residential buildings. As many housing units coexist in a same building of apartment houses, the types of hot water system are differentiated according to the scale. Also, there are various factors such as from national weather characteristics, thermal characteristics of building structures, and lifestyles to energy source units and industrial structures that have effect on selection of appropriate hot water system. In our country, there has been supplied various types of hot water supply systems of apartment houses from individual briquette boiler heating system, which is the initial system supplied in the beginning period of apartment houses, to large-scale central and district heating systems with the energy source of oil and individual heating system with the energy source of gas or electricity. In foreign countries, the district heating system operated by cogeneration or central supply is applied to the large-scale newly built apartment houses, and the cost of gas or electric energy is relatively cheaper and thus it is general to take individual system in using of these energies. This study analyzed the effect of the external weather variables on the hot water flow rate of users in apartment houses with district heating. As most of the apartment houses in our country was solid construction with large thermal storage capacity there was occurred big time lack in heat transfer; as it was managed with intermittent operation, the portion of preheat load was large. Therefore, the outdoor air temperature after several hours should be estimated for smooth heat supply to the indoor at the right time in accordance with the change of the outdoor air temperature. Usually, it was compared and analyzed the change of user’s hot water flow rate in comparison of the usual time when it was estimated and when the outdoor air variables were changed (increased outdoor air temperature, increased rainfalls, increased snowfalls, and fine dust concentration) to derive a prediction formula for the user’s hot water flow rate in accordance with the outdoor weather variables. The results were summarized as follows: 1) The apartment houses were divided by small, medium, and large in accordance with the size to analyze the relativeness between the how water flow rate and outdoor weather variables. Regarding the small apartment houses, the relativeness between the hot water flow rate and 1 day average fine dust concentration was 57.5%, and the outdoor air temperature was 89.5%, and the rainfalls was 33%, and the snowfalls was 32%. Regarding the medium apartment houses, the relativeness between the hot water flow rate and 1 day average fine dust concentration was 32.5%, and the outdoor air temperature was 81.50%, and the rainfalls was 31.5%, and the snowfalls was 34.5%. Regarding the large apartment houses, the relativeness between the hot water flow rate and 1 day average fine dust concentration was 37%, and the outdoor air temperature was 87.5%, and the rainfalls was 28%, and the snowfalls was 39%. 2) The formula to predict the hot water flow rate by house units according to the size in using of the outdoor air temperature value of the target apartment houses and the distribution of the values of hot water flow rate by house units was derived. Each formula by sizes was as followings: Small Apartment Houses : Medium Apartment Houses : Large Apartment Houses : This study examined the change of hot water heat flow rate by collecting and analyzing the hot water flow rate of the users in real time, and it analyzed the maximum number of samples in consideration of the distance of many apartment houses by sizes (square meter) from the energy source, region within the area of heat supply, time of construction, and etc. rather than just the pattern of heat usage in one of the apartment houses; it was expected to estimate the load of hot water flow rate in future with modification of the prediction formula for hot water flow rate and obtain high value as application data for design of energy source facility for apartment houses.
