Tea has been developed variously as it started from China. Because our country is geographically closed with China, tea culture has passed down contemporary. Under the influence of Chinese tea culture, up to the period of the three Kingdoms and Goryeo dynasty, tea culture has developed in similarly, but different complexion was shown in Chosun dynasty. Ming dynasty of China, abolition of lump tea(團茶) was started from Chu Yuan-chang(朱元璋) loose tea(散茶) and solid tea(固形茶) coexist together which is totally different with China in same age. Another characteristics of tea culture in Chosun dynasty is that it was drunk as a medicine. These can be checked in literature in Chosun dynasty. Especially in the poems about that used tea as a subject. These custom that loose tea and solid tea was drunk in same time is the most distinguishing characteristics. This study determine distinguishing characteristics of Chosun dynasty tea culture and the literature as well. First of all, through the literature that was written in Ming dynasty, reviewed the method of manufacture and drinking tea, then determined the characteristics of Chosun dynasty and Chinese drinking tea culture. In Ming dynasty of China, as loose tea was made with pen-fixation method(炒靑法), the way of drinking tea also changed to brewing tea method(泡茶法). However, at that time, the solid tea with steam-fixation method(蒸靑法) was drunk and used in Chosun dynasty. It can be found that drinking and using solid tea during the whole Chosun dynasty through the poems with subject of tea in Chosun dynasty. Especially the ‘Manbulcha(萬佛茶)’, ‘Jukrocha(竹露茶)’, ‘Borimbaekmo(寶林白茅)’, etc, distinct of solid teas are shown that can't be found in China. The pointing tea method(點茶法) of Song dynasty which was disappeared in Ming dynasty in China, was used in tea ceremony(獻茶) of customary formalities of family(家禮) in Chosun dynasty. Because custom for drinking and use of solid tea was continuously popular at that time. Use Pointing tea(點茶) in the customary formalities of family continued for long time. When people couldn't get tea, they used to use spoon to drop the grains of cooked rice in tea instead. As these custom continued till now, it represents importance of use Pointing tea in the tea ceremony. When we look in to 『Dabu(茶賦)』 of Lee Mok(李穆), 『Bupunghyangcha bo(扶風鄕茶譜)』 of Lee Wun-Hae(李運海), 『Kida(記茶)』 of Lee Deok-Ri(李德履) and 『Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)』 of Heo Jun(許浚) and all the other poems in Chosun dynasty about tea, it is visible with tea custom used in pharmacologically. While the literature from Chosun dynasty mentioned about pharmacological effect of tea, in 『Kida』 it says, Jakseulcha(雀舌茶) was used in pharmacology. When 『Donguibogam』 compiled, it is for people to easily use with Hyangyak(鄕藥) that produced and harvested in Chosun. Therefore, in 『Donguibogam』, it is well shown of various use in tea as a Hyangyak taking medicine, prescribe, a single medicine prescription and external use. The fact of tea which was used as medicine was the solid tea is an interesting. The reason of solid tea was used in pharmacological use is that custom of solid tea was popular continuously and it was easy to get. Because the effects of tea is exceptional, tea was used as a medicine in chosun dynasty and also the country recommend people to use. I upgather cases on pharmacological use in literature of Chosun dynasty and compared, analyzed with scientific experiments in these days. This analysis let us know our ancient sages already knew the pharmacological use of tea by their own experience.
