This study aims to develop more effective group counseling program as well as to examine the effectiveness of the afore-mentioned program that is assumed to play a positive role in helping couples who are subject to divorce recover relations with their spouses from unhappy ones based on Gottman's Research and Couple's counseling. To examine the effectiveness of the group counseling program previously mentioned here in this article, both quantitative and qualitative studies were conducted. This study also ultimately aims to draw feasible implications that can lead couples to use the group counseling program to help them not to divorce based on findings of this study. A total of five(5) couples where were at risk for divorce participated in the group counseling program, and the group counseling program was administered on them over a total period of six(6) sessions, one(1) session per week, from Jan. 4th, 2013 to Feb. 10th, 2014. Each session was designed to be 150 minutes. To examine the effectiveness of the group counseling program, first, measurement tools such as Gotmann SRH Questionaires, Weiss-Ceretto Marital Status Inventory Conflict Tactics, and K-MSI were used to administer pre, post, and follow-up. To examine differences between groups, mean and standard deviations were computed. To determine whether the results of pre-test and those of follow-up test are homogeneous, Mann-Whitney U Test was employed, and to examine differences in accordance with the directions (+), (-), during pre-group test, post-group test, and at follow-up test (after three months), Wilcoxon signed rank test was administered. Second, qualitative study was administered through in-depth interview approach. The findings show that, First, the group counseling program improved the participants' marriage satisfaction while reducing their possibilities of getting divorced even though they were at risk for divorce. Second, the program also helps them change their negative emotions to positive ones towards their spouses while reducing causes that hinder their well-rounded communications with their spouses. Third, the program also helps them change their usual methods of controlling conflicts to positive methods from negative ones. Tests were also administered immediately after conducting the program on both the control group and experiment group so as to check if there any changes in their attitudes towards their spouses, and Wilcoxen was also used to check if there any changes in their attitudes towards their spouses three months after they joined the program, particularly the effectiveness of the program in which they participated continues later on. It shows that the wives of the male participants who had been assigned to experiment group were found to show the effects of their participation in the program were the same even three months after they joined the program, in the survey items such as their crisis levels of divorce, marriage satisfaction levels, their maps of love, whether they have a favourable impression on their spouses, whether they respect their spouses, whether they try to be friendly with their spouses or they try to keep distance from their spouses, how hard they try to get rid of factors that hinder their communication with their spouses, whether they try to speak to the spouses by using rough words, and whether they try to accept their spouses's requests and opinions. However, there were significant differences in the wives of the male participants who had been assigned to experiment group, because they did not show improved relationships with their spouses at follow-up tests. For husbands who were assigned to experiment group, they show lower scores in the survey items such as their crisis levels of divorce, marriage satisfaction levels, their maps of love, whether they have a favourable impression on their spouses, whether they respect their spouses, whether they try to be friendly with their spouses or they try to keep distance from their spouses, how hard they try to get rid of factors that hinder their communication with their spouses, whether they attempt to start relation recovery, and whether they try to accept their spouses's requests and opinions at follow-up test than at post-test, but these differences in scores were not significant which means that the improved effects of the program on the participants showed after the program implemented are the same in the follow-up tests. Analysis of the results of the couple counseling program through qualitative study shows that the subjects' positive emotions toward their spouses improved that might directly affect their improved marriage satisfaction and decreased possibility of they being placed in marriage crisis, the factors that play negative roles in making communications between couples hard changed for the positive manner, and their usual methods of alleviating conflicts with their spouses also changed for the positive manner. Their improved marriage satisfaction and decreased possibility of they being placed in marriage crisis were also shown in the quantitative study. These findings show that this study is significant in that the effectiveness of the group counseling program administered on couples who were at risk for divorces was examined, which was designed to help them recover the relations with their spouses from unhappy ones, and also in that feasible intervention methods as part of group counseling program was developed to the afore-mentioned effect.
