In this study, we study flocculated system in particulate dispersions from viscosity behavior and explain microstructure of floc using fractal dimension theory. In viscosity behavior, we predict presence of floc through shear-thinning behavior, intrinsic viscosity variation at each shear rate and yield stress and also it can predict from sedimentation. Based on relative viscosity and yield stress results, we can explain that magnetite dispersions are changed like solid above Φ=0.01 making network structure among flocs and above this concentration, we get fractal dimension, 1.91, by using relation between average settling velocity and particle volume fraction. This value is similar to fractal dimension calculated from equation related to yield stress and particle volume fraction. Therefore, we find that flocs have fractal dimension, 1.91, and similarly behave as DLCA model. In order to check an agreement with predicted fractal dimension, we use the value of m, which means constant related to aggregate deformation and structure under shear rate. We apply to 1.91 and get the value of m about 0.271 using relation between intrinsic viscosity and shear rate. We know that fractal dimension, 1.91 and the result from the value of m are consistent because aggregates are similar to DLCA model when the value of m has 0.333. Therefore, we can explain that microstructure in particulate dispersions has fractal dimension, 1.91, and similarly behave as DLCA model.
