Most thermoelectric power plants, the representative facility that emits oxides, are using Selective Catalytic Reduction(SCR) facility showing denitrification efficiency among facilities for removing nitrogen oxides. Anhydrous ammonia or ammonia water used in the SCR process is used as a reducing agent and anhydrous ammonia is an explosive, toxic high-pressure gas and is a substance which may cause a fatal large accident for power plants and life if exploded and ammonia water is also a representative odorant and odor occurrence and casualties will be serious when leaked. Therefore, in order to provide basic data for replacing the reducing agent used in conventional SCR facilities from anhydrous ammonia to Urea-aqueous Solution, this study is to derive the optimal conditions required to replace a reducing agent with Urea in conventional thermal power plant flue gas conditions. In order to examine the SCR characteristics by variable of Urea, inlet gas was used in the same conditions as those of flue gas flowing into SCR of existing thermal power plants and Urea, a reducing agent, was dissolved in water and fed into the volumetric pump. Urea used in the experiment used an aqueous solution of 1% concentration and concentration of the exhaust gas and reduction rate of nitrogen oxides(NOx) depending on temperature(260 ~ 380℃), Normalized Stoichiometric Ratio(NSR 0.8 ~ 1.4), preheater temperature(350℃, 380℃) were measured by using Gas analyzer(GleenLine 9000, Eurotron Co. ltd, Italy). It was found that NOx reduction rate is less than 55% from NSR 0.8 to 1.4 at 260℃ while NOx reduction rate has been significantly increased at 260 ~ 290℃. It was also found that it has gradually increased up to 290 ~ 350℃ and slowed down at the temperature of more than 350℃. Generally, NSR characteristics depending on the temperature showed NOx reduction rate of a similar trend and the conditions satisfying a 80% level, the SCR process design assured value of thermal power plants turned out to be NSR 1.4, more than 320℃, more than NSR 1 when 290℃. The experiment was carried out while increasing temperature of SCR Reactor by 30℃ from 290℃ to 380℃ under the condition of pyrolyzing Urea at 350℃, 380℃ and then injecting it in case of low flue gas temperature and as a result, when pyrolyzing Urea at more than 350 ℃ temperature and injecting it under the condition of SCR Reactor 320℃, it showed NOx reduction efficiency almost the same as NH3 and when pyrolyzing Urea at more than 350℃ and then injecting it, more than 80% of NOx reduction rate was found to be satisfactory even at SCR Reactor 320 ℃. Based on the above results, it is considered that the condition satisfying a 80% level, the design assured value of thermal power plants using existing NH3 SCR by using Urea as the reducing agent is the condition of more than NSR 1.2 under the condition of flue gas at more than 350℃ and Urea pyrolysis device of more than 350℃ should be installed at the temperature of less than 320℃. In addition, when the flue gas temperature is less than 290℃, it may be difficult to apply Urea as the reducing agent.
