In this study, we investigated the ability of Five kinds of Resource Plant extracts to prevent bone loss and to determine the effects on body glucose metabolism and lipid metabolism in postmenopausal osteoporosis. Water extracts from resource plant were analyzed for in vitro experiments and in vivo animal experiments.
In vitro experiments, DPPH radical scavenging activity, Reducing power, ABTS, Superoxide dismutase-like activity and Fe2+ chelate abilities in resource plant were studied by analysing extraction of water solvent.
In vivo animal experiments, Female Ovariectomized Sprague-Dawley Rats were randomly divided into seven dietary groups(n=6) and given experimental diets for eight weeks: SHAM; Sham operated rats fed with normal control diet, OVX; Ovariectomized rats fed with normal control diet, OVX-SW; OVX +Sambucus Williamsii, OVX-CS; OVX +Caragana Sinica, OVX-EU; OVX +Eucommia Ulmoides, OVX-AR; OVX +Achyranthis Radix, OVX-DR; OVX +Drynariae Rhizoma. After sacrifice, Lipid profile, GOT and GPT levels were tested. Glucose level, hepatic glycogen level and plasma insulin level was determined. For the analysis of glucose-regulating enzymes, after separating liver and kidney enzyme. Lipid Metabolism in the liver as well as the adipocyte lipid profile was examined and Plasma adipokinase.
At the end of the experimental period, glucose regulating enzyme(GK, G6pase, PEPCK) levels in the most of the experimental groups were better than OVX in both liver and kidney tissue enzymes. Lipid-regulating enzyme (FAS, ME, G6PD, CPT and β-oxidation) of the experimental groups had same results.
This study suggests that Five kinds of Resource Plant extracts are effective in improving the Glucose Metabolism and Lipid Metabolism by normal control diet fed female ovariectomized rats. The results also demonstrate that the Resource Plant, Known to be effective in bone, extracts mutant may be beneficial with Lipid Metabolism which can help regulate on menopause model.
