Humans have long been educated for more valuable lives, and Art Education has played an important role in broadening humans’ perspectives. Art helps contemporary people living in digital age to have more flexible thoughts. For the future of korean society that welcomes multi-culturalism, we need to cultivate competent people who are capable of expressing themselves clearly and are able to approach matters in various perspectives. This study can be summarized as below. In the introduction, I discuss the necessity and objectives of this study in relation to the preceding researches and then bring forward the methods and contents. In Chapter two, in order to recognize the value of drawing education, I look into the concept and necessity of it. Drawing Education helps to expand students’ piecemeal perspectives and is suitable for expressing themselves reflected by modern society. Additionally, drawing education is a place where students can express their unconscious thoughts like scribbles of children in a scribbling stage. Accordingly, Drawing education is a chance for children in their developing stage to reflect on themselves and to attempt new things. Repetitive experiments about drawing can stimulate the potential creativity inside of all children. On the other side, in Korea, drawing education has a tendency to be obsessed with exact reproducing of objects and to aim technical improvement only. Through long experience in children’s art education, I understand two following realities of Korean drawing education today. Firstly, although there have been various researches on drawing education on people and space expression, there has been a lack of researches on animal expression. So, I found a need for animal drawing education that can triggered children’s interests instead of focusing only on observation expression. Secondly, through long-term observation on children’s growth, I discovered that children from when they are seven years old change their perspectives on art. From ages four to seven, children experience creative thinking freely, but from seven and onwards, they tend to lose their confidence in art. Excessive obsession with observation expression but the lack of the development of technology below the level of it causes the lack of creativity and the dependency of children. Through such observation, in order to change children’s perception that art is boring and in order to develop children’s creativity, I felt there is a great need for a research about authentic drawing education. In Chapter 3, I developed an understanding that the lowenfeld’s creative art education theory can contribute to the development of Korean children and I looked into its background. He believed that different appropriate art education is needed depending on the developmental stage of the child, and requested that art become a close friend to the children. He believed that developing through art was the most influential and the only way to develop potential creativity. In Chapter 4, based on the above mentioned background, I created three types of lesson plans. Firstly, I created lesson plan, straying off learning by rote method, that has students observe animals with a magnifying glass and grow confidence in realistic portrayal. The second lesson plan looks into combining various existing animals into a new animal. Through this exercise, children can learn to understand the concept of mixed colors which permits them to think creatively and to avoid coming up with fixed idea of art work. The third lesson plan relies only on listening to stories of animals and expressing through listening. In particular, we tend to treat art education as purely a visual activity, however, through non-visual activities, we can undergo artistic experience, and different activities such as these can change students’ perceptions of art completely. I used these three education programs to conduct classes at Creation Centre B located in Dogok to children of 7 to 9 years old. In Chapter 5, through children’s works, I was able to observe the change in the attitude of students and extent of their interests in classes before and after the classes and was able to prove the necessity of such drawing classes. This study aims for stimulating the children’s hidden creativity and inner senses of human by using Lowenfeld’s art education theory. The objective of contemporary art education is far from promoting excellent artists. Through art, people view the relationship between society and themselves, and interact with their inner sides. Through art, They express their unconsciousness that they have not recognized, and through this exercise people get to learn how to overcome their difficulties called attempt, fail, breakdown, and overcome by themselves. Pursuant to this, drawing education for children before they reach adolescence is an important element. Persistent research and active interest of society in art education centering children’s creativity should be accompanied.
