With the increasing scale of clean rooms in the LCD industry in recent years, the size of the logistics automation system and power consumption are also expanding accordingly. Manufacturers are therefore required to apply power-reducing modules to their next-generation systems as a means of reducing power consumption of the logistics transportation system and thereby enhance production competitiveness. This study suggests a power reduction system to curtail the output current during standby in order to reduce power loss caused by the skin effect from non-contacting power supply feeders. The reduction rates of power consumption were measured following application of the power reduction system to non-contacting power supply units. To this end, a non-contacting power supply unit was constructed with the first power module, power transmission part, and the second power module, and the power lost during standby was measured. Feedback systems were configured for the switching current running from the IGBT module to the LC resonator and for the output current of litz wire of the power transmission part. Algorithms for output adjustment were then designed, taking into consideration verification of the load status, adjustment of the output current of litz wire, and recovery of the normal output current of litz wire. The final step was to apply the power reduction system during standby to the non-contacting power supply unit that produces a maximum current of 20kW and a rated current of 10kW with commercial power input, and to measure and compare the power consumption before and after such application. The results suggest that, after the power reduction system was applied during standby time, the power consumption fell by 18% on average. This study is expected to contribute to improving power efficiency and reducing production costs for non-contacting power supply units.
