Nowadays, public art is used for solving the urban atrophy of old cities. Around the world, there are many cities which have achieved considerable urban regeneration using public art such as 'Engel of the North, England', 'Sculpture Project of Munster, Germany' and 'Millennium Park in Chicago, the USA'. The examples indicate that public art can change image of cities in a bright way, and give revivals to cities in terms of physical, economical and social ways. On the basis of the effects on the public art, the Ministry of Culture in Korea started 'Village art project' in 2009. This project consists of 3 factors: improving of townscape, painting murals and making sculptures. Until now, there are 76 numbers of the villages which have been revived by this project. Some of them become tour spots in Korea. Millions of tourists visit them every year. According to a survey conducted by Korea Economic Daily in 2014, 'Gamchoen Cultural Village' which were revived through 'Village Art Project' will create an economic ripple effect worth 40 million dollars. Thus, most of the other local governments try to attract the project as priority. However, before spreading the process, governments should consider of local residents' satisfaction as much as economical benefits because the project are usually conducted in densely populated areas. In this regard, the purpose of this thesis is to analyze the levels of residents' satisfaction through a survey in typical three villages which are regenerated by 'Village Art Project'. The principal result of this research are as follows: 1) According to this survey, in the case of satisfactions in esthetic, all three villages show for higher satisfaction levels than mean value. 2) Only Hwasun which has expanded amenities has higher satisfactions level in communication and community attachment compared to mean value. 3) The 'Village Art Project' brings about an increase in land value, but it does not have beneficial effects on monthly income and job creation. 4) The whole three villages have low satisfaction level in convenience due to increasing numbers of visitors. Especially, inadequate parking and segregation of pedestrian and vehicle should be improved firstly. 5) For the higher satisfaction of the esthetic, installing diverse forms of arts as sculptures and murals around a village is better than focusing on one type of art forms. In conclusion, the results of analysis in this thesis could help implementation for more projects of urban regeneration using public art.
