According to recent studies on learning in museums, it has become increasingly necessary to create a participatory environment aimed at making galleries more stimulating and active for its visitors. In response, a variety of educational programs and aids have been developed and provided, but most of them tend to have unsustainable and limited effects. The unfortunate results seem to lead from the restriction on the subject, mostly adults, of research and the lack of understanding the fundamental mechanism for communication with others and art work. In order to settle these problems, it's essential to start from the gallery's conversations and extend the subject to children, particularly elementary school students. Furthermore, the students' interaction should be researched in the aspect of aesthetic development. By doing so, a better understanding can be made and stimulation can be more meaningful for the students. Considering the fact that the students have difficulties engaging in aesthetic conversations without any help, they were provided with guide materials which centered on conversations and open questions. In addition, they were given five art works that they carefully observed and expressed their opinions about them with others. First, the analysis of the content attributes were conducted based on the frameworks which are reframed from Allen's and Housen's research. The two respectively categorized learning in museums and analyzed interviews related with aesthetic development. In accordance with the analysis, dialogues about art works consist of seven categories: perceptional talk, conceptual talk, connecting talk, emotional talk, assessing talk, strategic talk, and other talks. These categories are also divided into sixteen subcategories. Second, the analysis of interactive patterns focused on seven factors: participants' roles, process of changes in the roles, a degree of participation, development of conversations, changes in opinions, results of drawing conclusions, and a way to use conversation strategies. From this, patterns of interaction can be categorized into either communicative or uncommunicative: communicative interactions include a question-and-answer type, a response centered type, a type of drawing a conclusion via an active consensus process, and a type without conclusions due to disagreements; uncommunicative interactions include independent thinking and not considering other individuals' opinions and blocked conversations due to passive attitude. Third, the analysis showed that the aesthetic development levels increased when students engaged in conversations with their peers. The members of these groups actively ask and answer questions regarding art works, attempt to come to agreements, and have a heated discussion. Doing these activities, they talked about something from a low level of aesthetic development in the early stages but, in the course of time, they increasingly created the conversations which can be from people with higher aesthetic ability. In spite of various interruptive factors that can impact their conversations, active interaction between peer visitors seems to be a stimulus. In this paper, there will be an overall understanding and reflection about elementary school students participating in activities related to museums, particularly from their conversations. The students' aesthetic development stage is highly influenced by their interaction patterns. Furthermore, this research can ultimately show how museums and teachers can help elementary school students interact more effectively.
