일반적으로 [M2+1-xM3+x(OH)2]x+(An-)x·mH2O로 표현된다.

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs), also known as hydrotalcite-like clays, consist of positively charged metal hydroxides and charge balancing anions, expressed by the general formular [M2+1-xM3+x(OH)2]x+(An-)x·mH2O, wherein M2+ and M3+ can be any divalent and trivalent metal cations occupied in the octahedral holes of a brucite-like layer. An- is any hydrates anion positioned in the gallery spaces between the layers through a strong electrostatic interaction and a hydrogen bonding network. The nanosheet of LDH is 1~2 nanometer thick hydroxide layer with ultimately 2-dimensional anisotropy and extremely high charge density. The nanosheet of LDH can be prepared by a total exfoliation of powdery LDH in formamide, which can be effectively swelled into the interlayer of LDH. The high level of positive charge density of LDH nanosheet can strongly immobilize various nanosized materials of negative surface charges. This process is one of potential method to produce new type of hybrid materials. In this study, we have developed a facile synthesis to form the new hybrid composite of LDH nanosheet and gold nanoparticles, where the gold nanoparticles were uniformly decorated on the surface of LDH nanosheet by the strong electrostatic interaction. The gold nanoparticles were selectively formed only on the LDH surface not in the reacting solutions, and the density of gold nanoparticle could be readily tuned by changing the concentration of gold precursor. We have also investigated the catalytic activities of the hybrid composite by monitoring their catalytic conversions in the reduction reaction of p-nitrophenol and in the electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose. The current hybrid catalyst exhibited the high catalytic performances in both the above reactions. Additionally, the hybrid catalyst showed excellent recyclic performance with over 98% of conversion efficiency in the solution catalysis for the reduction of p-nitrophenol. The results demonstrate that the LDH nanosheet can tightly bind the gold nanoparticles on their surface and effectively prevent the agglomeration of gold nanoparticles.
