This study sought to review whether anti-prejudice play activity that uses story-telling can decrease the prejudice and improve self-expression skills of young children. Moreover, the purpose of this study is to present an instruction method that uses story-telling for anti-prejudice play activities. To that end, this study set the following study questions. 1. What is the effect of anti-prejudice play activity through story-telling on the prejudice of young children? 2. What is the effect of anti-prejudice play activity through story-telling on the self-expression of young children? For the above study questions, 30 young children aged 5 and enrolled in the kindergarten located in city K, Jeolla North Province were used as subjects. Among them, 15 were in the control group and 15 were in the experiment group. The prejudice measurement tool used by Sunghee Ryu(2003) and the self-expression tool developed by Rakos and Schroeder(1980) and which was translated by Chanjin Byeon and Sunghee Kim(1980) was used. The tool consisted of 20 questions in three categories of content, voice and non-verbal fields. More specifically, the questionnaire covers appearances, race, social class, family composition and disorder among prejudices. To identify the effect on prejudice and self-expression of young children, the pre-test scores were analyzed for an independent sample t-test to confirm the homogeneity between the control and experiment groups. Second, from March 2 to May 8, 2015, an anti-prejudice play activity using story-telling was conducted for 10 weeks on the experiment group, while the control group only underwent a comprehensive activity on daily themes with a focus on the daily themes from the Nuri Curriculum. Third, after conducting an anti-prejudice play activity using story-telling, the post-test was conducted on the two groups from May 11 to May 13, 2015. The tests before and after the test of the two groups were analyzed for an independent sample t-test using SPSS 18.0 program. The findings can be summarized as follows. First, through anti-prejudice play activity using story-telling, prejudice of appearances, race, social class, family composition and disorder was discreaed in young children. This result showed that the children were able to think from the perspective of the protagonist in the story and through comprehensive expression and play activities, were able to re-experience, internalize the perception and reduce prejudice. Second, through anti-prejudice play activities using story-telling, the content, voice and non-verbal self-expression of young children saw improvement. This finding suggests that through these activities, young children were able to take on the perspective of the protagonist in the story and recompose the story by taking part in the preparation for play activities, leading to a positive effect on self-expression. Compiling the above findings suggest that anti-prejudice play activities using story-telling can be used in the filed for a meaningful instruction method and can be effective in reducing prejudice and improving self-expression in young children.
