In this study, we develop the optimum design of an explosion-proof methodology and an explosion-proof test methodology for wireless gas safety equipment. In addition, we conducted tests on the prototype to confirm the effectiveness of the methodologies. The methodology on explosion-proof design for wireless gas safety equipment developed in this study was derived by analyzing the national standards, international standards, wire and wireless explosion-proof equipment practices. The main information of the explosion-proof design methodology on gas safety equipment is as follows. First, the flameproof structure is suitable for explosion-proof enclosure due to its simple concept. In case of antenna, we can select explosion proof structure of flame proof, increased safety and intrinsic safety. Second, it should be designed as a circle shape for the development of IIC-grade flameproof enclosure. Third, it is needed to select a material with test reports on resistance to light and surface resistance since the non-metallic enclosures and non-metallic parts of enclosures are needed for additional tests. Forth, wireless gas safety equipment shall apply the explosion-proof technology to enclosure and antenna respectively in order to increase the utilization. The methodology on explosion-proof test for wireless gas safety equipment developed in this study was derived by analyzing the national and international standards. The main information of the explosion-proof test methodology on gas safety equipment is as follows. First, the product self-heating temperature for the temperature rating of T6 should not exceed more than 45 °C. Second, IP test is conducted according to KS C IEC 60529 and sealing materials such as rubber packings are needed for maintaining IP66 rating. Third, cemented joints are only permitted to ensure the sealing of the flameproof enclosure of which they form a part. Arrangements shall be made in the construction so that the mechanical strength of the assembly does not depend upon the adhesion of the cement alone. Forth, the impact test for light transmitting parts is applied to the strength of the 4J. Fifth, since the thermal endurance tests conducted on the non-metallic vessel for four weeks, it is possible to shorten the period of time by using a metal material. We produced a prototype in accordance with the development methodology and conducted structural test, thermal test (T6 rating), thermal endurance test, impact test, IP test (IP66 rating), the explosion tests, non-transmission test, overpressure test according to the explosion-proof test methodology. Test results were satisfied with the explosion-proof performance. As a result, the explosion-proof methodologies developed in this study meets the explosion proof test standard. Therefore, the methodologies can be widely used when performing a wireless explosion-proof gas safety equipment product development and testing. In addition, it can be applied to developing a variety of wireless explosion-proof products.
