코퍼스기반 고등학교 영어 교과서, EBS 영어 교재, 수능영어시험의 어휘 비교분석 : 난이도와 이독성 중심으로 A Corpus-based Analysis of Vocabulary in High School English Textbooks, EBS CSAT books, and CSAT원문보기

The purpose of this study is to analyze a corpus-based comparative analysis of the vocabulary level and Readability among high school English textbooks, English teaching materials of Education Broadcasting System(EBS), and Korean College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT). Subjects of analysis are high school textbook 'EnglishⅠ' and 'EnglishⅡ' of 2009 Educational Curriculum Revision, EBS-CSAT books for high school students, and CSAT(English). In order to examine a corpus-based analysis of the vocabulary level and Readability, this study used WordSmith Tools 6.0 software program, Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-kincaid Grade Level, and Gunning Fog Index.
The results were as follows. First, 'EnglishⅡ' uses more various words than 'EnglishⅠ' does. In the comparison of Type and TTR between them, the results indicated that EnglishⅡ had more types and its lexical diversity. Therefore, the difficulty level of EnglishⅡ is much higher than that of EnglishⅠ in terms of Readability. Second, EBS-CSAT books' standard deviation is 0.7007 and provides an even level text to students, but EBS-CSAT books use more about 5.5 words as average number of words per sentence than high school English textbooks do. Compared to the high school English textbooks, all EBS-CSAT books are above 12th grade on the basis of the US school system and show the difference of two grade levels between them. Third, there were big changes of CSAT during the period from 2013 to 2015. If CSAT's difficulty level is changed into high school English textbooks on the basis of Flesch Reading Conversion Table, there is the difference of two grade levels between CSAT and high school English textbooks. This result indicated that CSAT used not only more difficult vocabulary and Readability but also asked students to study more vocabulary than high school English textbooks' vocabulary.
Though the difficulty levels of EBS-CSAT books and CSAT are lowering gradually, they are still more difficult than those of high school English textbooks. Therefore, A lot of high school students preparing for CSAT use EBS-CSAT books instead of using English textbooks. In order to go back to English textbooks' original position, the difficulty levels of EBS-CSAT books and high school English textbooks should be adjusted from all angles and developed to help students' reduction of the learning quantity.
This study suggests that the ratio of connectivity between EBS-CSAT books and high school English textbooks should be changed to 70% of high school English textbooks and 30% of EBS-CSAT books.
