The purpose of this study was to investigate the use and preparation of enteral nutrition formula by the types of hospitals. A mail survey was conducted to the hospitals nationwide from August 24 to October 13, and dieticians in 284 hospitals (37 senior general hospitals, 92 general hospitals, 60 hospitals, 95 nursing hospitals) responded (response rate 41.5%).
A Nutrition Support Team (NST) was operated in 33.8% of the hospitals. and the director of the NST was a physician in 96.9% of the hospitals and a dietician in 3.1%. In terms of the main arbiter for enteral nutrition formula products, the percentage of a dietician was the highest in senior general hospitals, general hospitals, convalescent hospitals at 78.4%, 64.7%, 56.2% respectively, however in hospitals the doctors had the highest percentage at 57.7%. For the management department of enteral nutrition formula, all hospitals had the highest percentage of the nutrition team managing it.
Results of hospital nutrition management conditions analysis showed that 85.4% of all hospitals provided enteral nutrition formula. Among these, the highest percentage went to those providing newly released products just as they are at 87.4% of all hospitals, and next came those who provided a mix of newly released and ordinary products at 15.1%, 11.8% answered that they provide by mixing only newly released products, and 5.5% said that they provide by only grinding ordinary products.
