This study investigates a structural rigidity of CFRC based on a micro-mechanics theory for various layering scheme and the results are compared with simulated ones using ANSYS for different layering schemes. These results are also reviewed with experimental ones. Subsequently the computer modeling scheme is validated for future design improvement. In this study, the purpose of applying the classical theory of laminated plate is to estimate a modulus of the composite structure in theory first. The tensile and bending stiffness of the composite structure are calculated with existing theory and these values are correlated with those from ANSYS for further manipulation to form full scale modulus matrix. A series of experimental results are utilized for further validation. The test specimens are prepared in 4 different configurations by combining a fabric type and a unidirectional type prepreg. Each specimen is set to conduct both tensile and bending test according to ASTM D3039 and ASTM D790, respectively, to obtain a strength, deformation and stress values etc. The results are analyzed by comparing the test results and those with ANSYS and with theoretical calculations. The overall results provide the optimum combination of layering scheme as well as the thickness value of the product. Based on these design recommendation, a final product is produced for industrial robot boom and arm. These products are also tested for fatigue life and all are tested well within a required life cycle.
