Super duplex stainless steel (SDDS) consists of 50% austenite and 50% ferrite. For this reason, the application of the steel have been widened due to the high corrosion resistance and good mechanical propertied at low and high temperatures. Recently, energy industry, has rapidly increased the applications of SDSS such as sea water treatment equipment in nuclear power plants, seawater desalination plants, condenser tube cleaning system (CTCS), environmental plants including flue gas desulphurization in thermal power plants and chemical plant. Therefore, super duplex stainless steel technology development has been concentrated in the global interest. In this study, single weld pass weld metal made by GTA and FCA and mutipass weld metals made by FCA of super duplex stainless steel(UNS S32750) heated treated at 930℃, 1080℃ and 1230℃ were evaluated in terms of composition analysis, phase analysis, pitting corrosion resistance and mechanical tests such as tensile, impact and hardness tests. As a result of 930℃ heat treatment a sigle pass for weld metal mede by GTA, FCA welding, the formation of phases were confirmed as the sigma phase by macrostructure and SEM, EDX and XRD Peak analysis. The hardness values increased Hv100 higher than other heat treatment temperatures due to the formation of sigma phase. Based on test results, it was confirmed that lots of pitting corrosion occurred at phase boundary due to Cr content of sigma phase. As a result of 930℃ heat treatment after multipass welding, it was observed that the secondary austenite phase was formed in the reheated zone. Pitting corrosion was occurred at the secondary austenite and the hardness was lower than other weld metal. The more secondary heat treatment temperature increased, the more the austenite was redissolved into ferrite. In case of multipass welding, the ferrite amount had been increased toward the upper part and its hardness values were influenced by this result. Impact energy was low due to sigma phase formed in weld metal heat treated at 930℃ and tensile strength was also low compared to results by different temperatures of heat treatment. Base on this study, it was confirmed that the secondary austenite reduced pitting corrosion resistance of super duplex stainless steel and affected mechanical properties. In conclusion, it is important to select a proper heat treatment temperature, when welding super duplex stainless steel in the industrial field, in order to prevent weld from formation of sigma phase and secondary austenite phase. Even if the secondary austenite phase and sigma phase formed in the super duplex stainless steel after welding, quality of the weld can be recovered to the same level as the base metal by the proper heat treatment.
