3D Computational Modeling and Simulation of Primary Thrombus Formation Based on Fluid Dynamic and Level Sets원문보기

The primary thrombosis as the base of thrombosis has been well studied in clinical tests and laboratory tests. Recently, the study of primary thrombosis simulation based on applied mathematics and computer technologies has been one of the most popular research areas. In this dissertation, three kinds of 3D simulations of the primary thrombosis formation are proposed. All of the simulations are based on the multiscale model of which the macroscale sub-model use Navier-Stokes equations to simulate the blood flow with macroscopic properties such as velocity and viscosity, and the microscale sub-model is for the simulation of physiological processes of microscopic bodies such as platelets. The simulations of our study are improved step by step. The computational model of the first simulation is rough without plasma. In the second simulation, plasma is added into the computational model, so both the growth and rupture of the primary thrombus are simulated. Instead of modeling the primary thrombus growth by particles accumulation, a speed function of surface expansion is used to model the primary thrombus growth. The third simulation focuses on the shape of the primary thrombus. The application of level sets on representing fluid region, non-fluid region, and their interface is the feature of all simulations. The level sets are well used to define the boundary condition in the fluid simulation, and they are the base of the primary thrombus growth modeled by the speed function and Level Set Method. The computational efficiency of the simulations is improved by the MAC grid used in the blood flow simulation, the refined sub-grid used in the calculation of the forces acting on platelets and the primary thrombus, and Adaptive Mesh Refinement and Narrow Band approach applied to Level Set Method. By the simulations, the influence of blood flow velocity to the rate of primary thrombus growth and the time and size of primary thrombus rupture are numerically analyzed. How the growing primary thrombus effects the blood flow is also observed by the simulations with the shape of the primary thrombus being represented by the accumulated particles and the contour surface. The process of primary thrombus formation rendered in 3D by using VTK provides an intuitive observation of the primary thrombosis.
