Heavy metal pollution is a serious problem that must be solved because of its toxic effects against environmental and human health. Pollution by heavy metal ions and toxic heavy metals are harm to organic systems as they disrupt biological activities. Therefore, various biosensing methods have been studies and developed to protect human health from environmental pollution. So it is the essential to detect of toxic metals from the aqueous solution. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have attracted more interesting chemical due to their fascinating physical and chemical properties. They are able to develop some colorimetric methods for heavy metal ions detection with high sensitivity and selectivity. In the presence of sodium thiosulfate in aqueous solution, this system can detect Pb2+ ion with a value as low as 20 nM. The protocol for the preparation of aptamer-linked gold nanoparticle in technique were described to use cethyltrimetylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a surfactant upon binding target analytes. The metal ion was interacted with aptamer to form the Ars-3 aptamers complex, then the following cationic surfactant could be aggregated AuNPs and changed in color. The observation of transmission electron microscopy microscope (TEM) further checked that the AuNPs aggregation could be controlled by the exchanges of the aptamer, As3+ and cationic surfactant (CTAB). By using this method, the lowest value detected concentration for As3+ ion is 16.9 ppb for the naked eye. These results reveal that the developments of biosensor platforms for heavy metal ions were potentially applicable for the determination of heavy metal ions in environmental water sample.
