Port has played a major role, for example in the point of contact of land and sea traffic and entrepot. Especially in our country that is surrounded by sea on its three sides, the development of its economy relies on trade and high percentage in logistics shipping. Because of this, the role of port in the national economy can be very large. In the port city of Busan, the city develops together with the port, structural and functionally, through mutual interaction in accordance with the environmental change since the port opened. Furthermore, port is also the point of contact with other cultures and so the effect of co-existing with the city is absolute. Due to the old facilities and insufficient environmental compositions, Busan Port (North Port), is now inaccessible for citizens and be separated intensively from the city, although in the past it held the key role of Busan’s economic growth despite of hampering the city development and the beauty of the city. While port is getting into modern times, the problems of maritime trade, technology development, people’s lifestyle, and doughnut phenomenon rise in accordance with the collapsing world trade barrier. However, it started to get attention as it gives new energy to the city and possibility to increase national economy. Because of this, port’s role is demanded to develop to pass its simple traditional function as shipment dock and industrial support into an enlarged mixed-use port that includes industry and information facility, housing, shopping, and culture leisures. Accordingly, the government established the National Port Redevelopment Plan in 2007 to redevelop old ports that were built in 60-70’s into an environmental friendly high-value added ports. Targeting 12 national ports and 16 points, Busan Port (North Port) was selected as number one priority for the redevelopment and the work has been ongoing since 2004.
