RC can compensate weakness of low tensile strength and also has advantages such as engineering properties and cost-benefit. However when it is exposed to chloride attack, steel corrosion initiates due to permeation and diffusion of chloride ion, which leads a severe problem of structural safety. Cold joint is an imperfect joint due to delayed placing of concrete and limitation of construction level, and it allows more rapid intrusion of chloride ions. The present work evaluates chloride diffusion coefficient in cold joint concrete which has been cured for 1 year considering tensile and compressive loading conditions. For normal strength condition, 60% of W/B (Water to Binder) ratio is determined, and specific loading levels of 30% and 60% to peak are induced for tensile and compressive region, respectively. Furthermore 40% of GGBFS is replaced with OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) for evaluation of durability enhancement in GGBFS concrete with the same conditions of cold joint and applied loadings. Time-exponent in each diffusion coefficient is obtained from regression analysis and service life is evaluated through conventional program of Life-365 based on Fick's 2nd Law. Increase in diffusion coefficient is evaluated with increasing tensile loading, however it decreases to 30% of loading and rapidly increases after 60% of loading in compressive region. Due to continuous curing of concrete, the overall results are reduced compared with those in cured concrete for 91 days, and the effects of cold joint and loadings on diffusion coefficients are evaluated similarly. Improved chloride resistance is evaluated in concrete with GGBFS for all the cases and longer services life are obtained than those in normal concrete by 1.6~3.3 times due to lower diffusion coefficients.
