The stability test of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) to light using poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as gate-insulating layers and ultrasensitive multi-functional sensors using sensing layers with this component were performed in this thesis. In order to examine the stability of OFETs using poly(3-hexylthiopene) (P3HT) as channel layers, the on and off-state were sequentially repeated for 500 cycles. Compared to the first and last cycles current under dark condition, the off current and on current were observed that they increased 4% (0.14 nA) and 4.6% (4.59 nA), respectively. While, the off and on current under light-induced condition increased significantly to 200% (14.2 nA) and 120% (22.9 nA), respectively, and the stability of OFET was quite reduced. it result from the exitons created by light in channel layers. Although light affects the stability of OFETs, it can be used as a phototransistor if the stability of devices is improved. On the basis of the results, the ultrasensitive multi-functional sensors were fabricated by spin-coating LC molecules into PMMA matrix on P3HT channel layers of OFETs with flexible poly(ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) substrates. The polymer dispersed liquid crystal-integrated-OFET (PDLC-i-OFET) sensors could sensitively respond to four different stimulations such as very weak physical touch, strong physical touch, light, and heat. The flexible PDLC-i-OFET sensors could detect very weak nitrogen gas flow, which cannot be felt by human skin, and distinguish the direct physical touches (0.6~4.8 g load), respectively. In addition, the present sensors sensitively responded to a visible light and confirmed excellent heat-sensing characteristic at a temperature of 25~70 ℃. In particular, the flexible PDLC-i-OFET sensors could simultaneously sense two different stimulations, and show the possibility of development to multi-functional sensors such as artificial skins, and humanoid robot sensors, etc.
