This study was carried out to recover calcium sulfate and high value added aragonite which are used in various industrial fields by using waste desulfurization gypsum and bag filter ash which are buried as industrial general wastes. In this study, the possibility of using waste sulfuric acid was studied to reduce the cost of wastewater treatment in recovering calcium sulfate. In addition, the effect of reaction temperature, pH, and additives on the preparation of calcium sulfate and calcium carbonate were investigated. Calcium sulphate is generally called gypsum(CaSO4․2H2O), but it is classified into three types, ie, calcium sulphate dihydrate, calcium sulphate hemihydrate, and calcium sulphate anhydrite. Calcium sulphate hemihydrate is classified into α type and β type, and calcium sulphate anhydrite is classified into type Ⅰ to Ⅲ. Calcium carbonate is classified into calcite, aragonite and vaterite depending on crystal structure. Calcite is thermodynamically very stable, but vatertie is unstable and easily transformed into calcite or aragonite, and aragonite is known to be the most economical calcium carbonate. Calcium sulfate was synthesized through sulphidation reaction and the recovery rate of calcium sulfate was compared according to experimental conditions. XRD analysis was performed for the crystal phase analysis of recovered calcium sulfate. After the sulfidation reaction, CO2 gas was injected into the filtrate, and calcium carbonate was recovered using carbonation reaction. The recovered calcium carbonate was analyzed by XRD and SEM. The recovery efficiency of calcium sulfate by sulphidation reaction with waste desulfurization gypsum and bag filter ash was 87.5% and 88.9%, respectively. The recovery efficiency of bag filter ash was 84.8% % and 71.0%, respectively. Therefore, calcium sulfate can be recovered using waste sulfuric acid. In the carbonation reaction of waste desulfurization gypsum and bag filter ash, acicular calcium carbonate was formed in the case of desulfurization gypsum and spherical vaterite was formed in bag filter ash as the reaction temperature increased. The higher the pH, the greater the recovery rate of .The recovery rate of calcium carbonate. Addition of MgCl2 resulted in the formation of acicular form of CaCO3 from waste desulfurization gypsum. From the bag filter ash, a hexagonal vaterite was formed but the crystalline phase was in the transition stage.
