In Buddhism, Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine is the existence who protects Buddha and its 104th name and pen name can be identified from No.39 Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine and 『Seokmooneuibeom』appeared in 80『Hwa-um Buddhism』. Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine are a group of gods that exist between Buddha and humans and they existed based on Hwa-um Faith from the unified Silla Dynasty, existed throughout the Koryo Dynasty, and settled during the Joseon Dynasty. This study examined how the Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine Faith was formed and existed at Buddhist temples and looked into the meaning of Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine in Buddhism by clarifying the form classification during the late Joseon Dynasty and its religious and ritual meaning from a different level compared to the existing studies based on analysis of work through art history method. First of all, Chapter 2 studied the theoretical background and composition of the Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine Faith. Chapter 3 classified the late Joseon Dynasty Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine's iconography classification into Jaeseoktaeng, Indra-Brama-Heavenly Dragon, Geumgangtaeng, and No.104 Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine. As a result, Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine had a unique characteristic among the Vajrapani paintings of the Joseon Dynasty. The characteristic implies that Buddha Dharma protection and faith are included. Along with the protective function which guards purification and Jeongbeop within the Buddhist temple possessed by Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine, it is the Middle Altar which combines the realistic faith of Hyeonsaegubok and Sojaekangbok. Lastly, Chapter 4 studied the overall progress and flow of Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine in the late Joseon Dynasty and the historical significance based on the study so far. With the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty, the Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine Faith, which used to play the role of state protection from a nationwide level, turned into the character of protecting Buddhist temples and internal protection and was very popular among the ordinary people since traditional faith was merged with Buddhism. As studied so far, Buddhist paintings were in a situation of decline compared to previous ages. However, Bodhisattva of the Protection of Buddhist Doctrine has a significant meaning in the Korean Buddhist ideology and art in the sense that it displayed another creative development in the late Joseon Dynasty.
