In this study, organic core materials refer to phase change material (PCM) and curcumin. In case of PCM, it is a material that can store heat by change of phase by the control of temperature. And curcumin, called “turmeric,” is a food additive and a natural material with antimicrobial properties. Here, these two materials do not dissolve and are directly difficult to use. Because they are not compatible with other polymers. This thesis describes a novel encapsulation process introduced to increase the applicability and compatibility of phase change materials and curcumin used as core materials. Specially, we used polystyrene(PSt), polyurea(PU), and polyrhodanine(PRd) as the shell material, respectively. The following studies are established to achieve the above objectives. First, the purpose of producing PCM-PSt nanoparticles using PCM as a core material to enhance the adhesion and mechanical properties of the nanoparticles and synthesized into a core/shell type PCM and PSt using poly(styrene-co-acrylic acid)(SAA) which is an alkali soluble resin as a surfactant by using resin-fortified miniemulsion polymerization method. The adhesion property of PCM/PSt nanoparticles prepared using SAA by dip-coating method were confirmed with a thermal imaging camera. Then, core/shell nanoparticle was prepared by interfacial condensation polymerization system by introducing PU for heat capacity and high compatibility in PCM nanoparticle. In addition, PCM/PU nanoparticle was embedded in PEO nanofiber, and thermal storage nanofibers were fabricated in a mat type using electrospinning method, and thermal behavior by PCM/PU nanoparticle content was confirmed by thermal imaging camera. Finally, to solve the problem of application restriction because curcumin has poor miscibility with other polymers and is hydrophobic, curcumin/PRd core/shell nanoparticles were prepared by an oxidative polymerization system using Fenton reaction. It is easy to polymerize with a small amount of oxidizing agent, introduce H2O2, curcumin as a core material, can be released for a long time (1000 hours). And shell thickness of curcumin/polyrhodanine nanocapsules is easily adjustable through the control of rhodanine monomer content. Also, it was possible to prove that antimicrobial properties represent in minimal inhibition concentration and diameter of inhibition zone. Finally, the study on the reaction rate of curcumin/PRd nanoparticles in the oxidative polymerization system by adjusting the oxidant concentration is presented to suggest the direction of future research. In this way, by using various methods to manufacture with polymeric core/shell nanoparticles, the possibility and compatibility of the application are increased. We are expected to be highly valuable in all future fields.
