Isolation and genetic characterization of chicken infectious anemia virus in South Korea from 2012 to 2017원문보기

Chicken infectious anemia (CIA) is caused by an infection of CIA virus (CIAV), resulting in hemorrhage or immunosuppression caused by anemia or clotting disorders during infestation. CIAV is a non-enveloped virus that is resistant to many environmental conditions. As a result, chickens raised in contaminated farms are likely to be exposed to this virus through horizontal transmission. In addition, CIA infections are frequently detected in young chicks due to vertical transmission from mother hens to chicks. Thus there is concern that the virus can easily spread to other farms. Therefore, monitoring and preventive measures to prevent the spreading of the disease are required. However, because of the lack of awareness of the importance of CIAV, limited numbers of studies on the CIAV strains causing disease were performed. In addition, the failures in prevention plan or disinfection is leading to virus spreads rapidly. To compare genetic differences between the current filed strains and the strains caused outbreaks in the past, this study was carried out comparative sequence analysis using the CIAV strains isolated from March 2012 to April 2017. CIAV is a member of the circoviridae family containing a single-stranded circular DNA genome of approximately 2.3 kb in length. The viral genome consists of three open reading frames (ORFs) encoding the VP1(51.6 kDa), VP2(24.0 kDa) and VP3(13.6 kDa). In this study, using comparative nucleotide sequence analysis of the VP1 gene. I confirmed that CIAV strains isolated from Korea are genetically distinct and different from the CIAV vaccine been using in Korea. In addition, previously isolated CIAV strain was re-isolated in other geographical regions or at different time points. These results suggest that the current prevention and disinfection methods for the virus may not be effective. In conclusion, genetic variants of CIAV are prevalent in Korea and appropriate countermeasures for prevention, disinfection and vaccination are necessary to control CIAV infection.
