In this study the characteristics of micro pore structure, compressive strength, hydrate change and chloride ion migration were analyzed targeting paste, mortar and concrete specimen in the condition of using the blast furnace slag and fly ash, the representing industrial by-products, in order to understand the formation change of micro pore structure and durability according to the curing method when using industrial by-products. The pore structure analysis was based on the results of mercury intrusion (MIP) and the change of hydration products analysis was comparatively analyzed through XRD and TG-DTA. The transfer characteristics of chloride ion were quantitatively analyzed for total passed charge by ASTM C 1202 test method through the rapid chloride ion penetration test, and diffusion coefficient was evaluated for comparative analysis by NT BUILD 492 test method. As a result of the compressive strength characteristics in case of the level using the blast furnace slag and the fly ash the degradation in strength was remarkable compared to the curing under the water when curing in the air as well as carbonation in comparison with the level using the ordinary portland cement. These results could be judged that the degradation of compressive strength was caused of latent hydraulic and pozzolanic reactivity curing in air and the change of hydrate during carbonation curing might affected. In conclusion the industrial by-products showed high dependence on the curing environment at compressive strength which is being revealed in existing studies and has been checked also through the result of this experiment. As a result of micro pore structure characteristics evaluation, the densification of pore structure with increasing age at the time of underwater curing was clear at the level of using industrial by-products. However, the remarkable change of the pore structure between curing methods was large at the level of using industrial by-products, and the peak pores were largely shifted to the larger pore direction at the level of using industrial by-products upon carbonation curing. This tendency was not so great at the level of using relatively ordinary portland cement. As a result, the densification of the pore structure was remarkably evident when the industrial by-products were used during water curing, but the densification of the pore structure was much suppressed during the curing in the air and the porous phenomenon of the pore structure was confirmed during the carbonation curing. Hydrate analysis showed that the formation of vaterite minerals was more evident at the level of using blast furnace slag. The decomposition of C-S-H mineral could be estimated by confirming the formation of vaterite minerals, and it is considered that such results have influenced on porous phenomenon of the pore structure, which was clearly observed at the level of using industrial by-products upon carbonation. As a result of evaluation of chloride ion migration resistance and diffusion coefficient, the migration resistance of chloride ion during underwater curing was significantly higher than that of ordinary portland cement at the level of using industrial byproducts, but such tendency was not significant at air curing. Also, the migration resistance of chloride ion was significantly improved when ordinary portland cement was used for carbonation curing, but the level of using industrial by-products was greatly decreased. These results are considered to be due to the formation characteristics of micro pore structure according to curing method, and it can be judged that the porous phenomenon of the pore structure observed at the level of using industrial byproducts upon carbonation might have affected. It has been confirmed through the result of experiment in this study that the change of compressive strength, micro pore structure formation, and chloride ion migration characteristics was significant in the case of using industrial by-products according to curing method, compared with the conditions ordinary portland cement was used, and each characteristic has high correlation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Key words: Industrial by-products, Micro Pore Structure, Curing Method, Blast Furnace Slag, Chloride Ion, Carbonation
