ECL(electrochemiluminescence)은 전기화학 셀에서 산화/환원반응에 의해 발생하는 발광을 의미한다.

ECL(electrochemiluminescence) is a light emission generated by an oxidation / reduction reaction in electrochemical cells. An ECL device, composed of an ECL system, can be classified to three types; liquid-state device, gel-state device and solid-state device. The ECL device has been studied as a next-generation display due to its benefits of low-cost fabrication and low-power consumption. Typically, a constant voltage has been applied for driving the ECL device. However, poor performance and rapid deterioration of the device are inevitably accompanied. In order to improve the performance and stability of the device, it is necessary to apply a pulsed current so as induce oxidation/reduction of only the active materials that generate light-emitting via fast electron transfer at the electrode surface. In this paper, we adapted solution-phase device similar to conventional electrochemical system, to evaluate pulsed current driving of the ECL device. And we developed a home-made measuring system and a software to study the behavioral logic of the device under various driving conditions. We determined appropriate voltage to be applied to the device by means of EIS(electrochemical impedance spectroscopy). Finally it was confirmed that the stability of the device can be improved when applying pulsed application rather than constant application. Applying the current can improve the stability of the device rather than applying the voltage.
